UQ Fire at the official launch of the ARC Future Timber HubPublished: December 4, 2017

PhD and MEng students from UQ Fire were present at the official launch of the ARC Future Timber Hub at UQ. The Hub brings together experts from industry, government, and academia.

The Hub is an interdisciplinary partnership between The University of Queensland, the Queensland State Government Department of Agriculture and Fisher-ies, Hyne Timber, Arup, Lend Lease, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Scion NZ, Griffith University, The University of British Columbia and The University of Canterbury.

At the core of the Hub activities, are some research from UQ Fire’s students, including:• Exploring the self-extinguishment mechanism

of engineered timber in full-scale compartment fires; and

• Long-span floor timber systems and the potential for improved fire performance.

Graduate Certificate 2017Published: November 20, 2017

UQ Fire is delighted to once again run the Graduate Certificate in Fire safety, hosting a selected group of firefighters from the Australian Fire and Emergency Services.

Providing the knowledge of fundamentals through lectures, workshops, assignments and extensive laboratory work.

In addition, also gaining a valuable insight into their perspective on fire safety issues and the challenges

that they face, both as firefighters and as approvals officers.

We are happy to have this opportunity to enrich the fire brigade knowledge and also to strengthen our relationship with them and therefore our research.
