Statement of the Problem

This research will aim to find out the impact of the BARRO Program to the academic performance of students enrolled at Ihan National High School for school-year 2012-2013.

Specifically, it seeks to find out answers to the following questions:

1. Does implementation of the BARRO Program improve students’ reading proficiency level?

2. Does implementation of the BARRO Program increase students’ academic performance?

Significance of the Study

For the students whose reading level is frustration, this study will direct them on the importance of submitting themselves to the program.

For the RR teachers, this will help them to assess the efficacy of their performance as mentors of the program.

Scope and Limitations

The study will be limited only in determining the impact and effects of the BARRO program to the academic performance of Ihan National High School Students.

Respondents will be first year to fourth year students whose reading level is frustration.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Research Instrument

The data on the results of Phil-IRI pre-test and post test will be gathered from the English teachers of Ihan National High School as well as the results of pre test and post test of the five key subjects: English, Math, Science, Filipino and Araling Panlipunan.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering and documentation will involve approval and written consent from the school administrator, RR teachers, subject teachers and respondents of Ihan National High School.

Statistical Tools T test for paired samples be used to

determine whether the means of Phil-IRI pre test and post test are statistically different from each other. The same statistical design will be used to test whether the means of the five subject areas’ pre test and post test are statistically different from each other.

In correlating the variable with the academic performance, Pearson r will be utilized. The correlation will be interpreted at .05 level of significance.
