“In 2010, 8 out of 10 Canadian households (79%) had access to the Internet. Over one-half of connected households used more than one type of device to go online.”

"Radio did not destroy the newspaper; television did not kill radio; and the Internet did not make TV extinct. In each case, the information environment became richer and more complex" (Darnton, 2011, para. 5).
The Library is Alive and Kicking.
o identifying types of informationo effectively evaluating
informationo using library resources not
available through Googleo making your research more
efficient and effective
Goals
In such a complex "information rich" environment, how do I know what information is good?
#1Know your resources and their differences.
Peer-reviewed journals, scholarly articles, trade magazines, popular magazines, websites, associations, government organizations, books, encyclopedias, dictionaries etc etc.
#2Evaluate your resources before using them in a paper.
Learn how to know what’s CRAAP.
Is it Current? When was it published? Are their references current? Is currency important for your topic?
Is it Relevant?Does the info relate to my topic? What audience is it written for? Is it at an appropriate level for my needs?
Is it Authoritative?Who is the author/organization? Are they qualified? Is it edited or peer-reviewed? If a website, does the URL tell you anything?
Is it Accurate?Where does the information come from? Are there references? Are there errors, broken links etc
What is its Purpose? What’s the purpose of the information? Advertising? Scholarly work? Opinion? Is there bias?
