Browsing and reading materials in the library is important in order to validate points, statements, and ideas

Find a resource “Turtles lay lots of eggs.” – This statement is an opinion and does

not have detailed proof to make it valid, therefor it needs to be linked to a resource to be supported. (incorrect)

“Female snapping turtles can lay clutches of 20 – 40 eggs” (Britannica). (correct)

How to locate books as a resource

Lets pretend I write the following statement:

“The Wright brothers used the idea of flying a kite, to eventually give birth to aviation.”

When writing notes for presentations, you must be sure to site the source and location of the facts

We must list the title, author, and publisher of the book

Next we list the page number/location

When we include the fact in our note taking it looks like this…

When we say it in a presentation it sounds like this:

According to Harry Kinnison, one of the ways the Wright brothers learned to fly was from the mechanics of flying a kite. This proved to be very useful, as the Wright brothers eventually figured out how to aviate an aircraft.

Sometimes there are pictures of graphs and/or diagrams that we must use to show comparisons and facts.

Example: The presenter will write of say, “The blue whale is bigger than a tank, rhino, shark, school bus, and an airplane all combined.”

At this point, the presenter would show where the information was found according to the graph: The presenter may show the page or the graph itself.

Be sure to always include where the picture came from - Documentation
