RESERVE CLASSIFICATION CONSULTATION 2017 As part of ongoing administration work we are reviewing the reserve holdings around the city and identifying where changes need to be made to keep our reserves classifications up to date and accurate for the purposes they are being used. The reserve classifications being reviewed in this exercise include:

Proposed Reserve Act 1977 action: Declare Lot 1689 DP 60005 and Lot 2 DP 90831 to be a reserve and classify it as Local Purpose (Community Amenity) (Section 14) Reclassify all remaining lots from recreation to Local Purpose (Community Amenity) (Section 16(1))
Explanation: Lot 1689 DP 60005 and Lot 2 DP 90831 were purchased with the intention they would become reserve. They are held under the Reserves Act for reserve purposes but need to be formally declared and classified for the purposes they were taken. Lot 1 DP 53918, Lot 1 DP 70349, Lot 2 DP 70349, Lot 3 DP 70349, Lot 2 DP 81606 are small lots and therefore are not suitable for the classification of recreation reserve. They are more suited to being held as Local Purpose (Community Amenity), in keeping with the rest of Whitby Lake.

Explanation: This parcel of land is adjacent to Cardiff Park. The RMP has recommended that the land be amalgamated with Cardiff Park after other parcels previously held as Waitangirua Farm have been transferred as part of Transmission Gully land acquisitions. The reclassification of the parcel is in keeping with this outcome. The parcel will be renamed as Cardiff Park as part of this classification process

Proposed Reserve Act 1977 action: Reclassify as a Local Purpose Reserve (Environment and Landscape Protection)
Explanation: This land is primarily used as a buffer between the district plan zones and public access is on a secondary benefit of this reserve strip. This land does not have a formed pathway on it and it is important to manage public expectations so that the public won't think that a pathway will be constructed through this reserve. It was left out of the reclassification process in 1994 and 2011 and this reclassification will correct those historical errors.

Explanation: Lot 42 DP 18576 was vested in Council as Local Purpose (Esplanade Reserve) but it has been leased and used as recreation facilities and sports ground. Changing the classification to recreation will better fits it current use and management.
