Tell us about your architectural thinking behind One The Waterfront?

Named “One The Waterfront” because of its premium gateway location, this is where Wentworth Point began. We have come full circle, finally completing the vision for a thriving waterfront suburb started here many years ago.

We wanted to take full advantage of this diverse backdrop, alongside both Sydney Olympic Parklands and the village heart of Wentworth Point with all the benefits that this brings.

To do that we’ve created a very dynamic collection of buildings with amenity – a kind of social and recreational network – that really enhances the experience of living in this special place.

How has that dynamism been realised?

The buildings and the residences are designed as spaces in which to really live well. Most residential buildings and precincts are very static. One The Waterfront is complex, integrated, so you can experience the architecture, the interiors and the surroundings in different ways according to your mood. Dynamic ideas of connection brought focus and clarity to distinguish One The Waterfront from its neighbours.

There’s some really exciting experiences being created here from the active, aerial sky gardens on roofs, the interactive water play in Bay Park to the luxury

Club One facilities. This network of social and leisure amenities is embedded into the architecture and landscaping in amazingly inventive ways. It really encourages healthy living, exercise, movement and activity.

Visually, how have you captured the special nature of living here in your architecture?

The rich, visual nature of the architecture comes to life above with clear and bronze glazing, gold finished louvres and bronze metallic framing which amplify the sun and animate the façade. As the light changes throughout the day and the seasons, the buildings take on different expressions.

In an environmental sense, the kinetic façades of glazing, bi-fold screens and louvres create tempered and weather-sealed All Seasons Living Rooms that residents can adjust to extend or close their living space, enjoy the sun or retain warmth.

We’ve also devised different types of All Seasons Living Room using tinted glass, louvred windows or bi-folds that respond to each apartment’s orientation and aspect. This flexible space allows people to modify how they live and connect with the environment in the way they choose. In winter it becomes an extension of indoor space and, in summer, an extension of the outdoors.

One The Waterfront is crafted, contemporary and connected. These three key ideas drove our design, seen in the tactile and responsive materiality and the notions of movement, flow and versatility that are embedded into every aspect of the development.

What is your inspiration for the greening of One The Waterfront?

The common theme running throughout is texture and the movement of water as it courses through a series of verdant and playful park and sky landscaping. It really has that lush, resort-like feel.

As people travel across and above the grounds, it’s like a journey alongside cascading and spilling water, passing by active and passive zones where people of all ages can engage, play or rest. There are rain curtains, bubbling jets and showers of mist that tie back to the harbour setting.

This site has an amazing natural landscaping. We want to create an equally unique development that will respect, complement and enhance the environment, leaving a positive impression, something for the future.

Everything connects you to the environment, the parks and the water where you can find diverse places to play, exercise, relax and socialise.

Sturt Noble worked hand in hand with architects, designers and engineers to achieve bespoke landscaping that are at one with the site and the buildings.

From day one, there’ll be mature trees including swaying palms, gum trees, rainforest canopies and large feature trees at the main entries to welcome you inside.

All this will be densely under-planted with lush and fragrant foliage, such as lilies and ginger, along with tropical pops of colour.

It achieves a very high design standard. That’s what we believe residents are really looking for when purchasing in a development with this level of prestige.

Turner’s senior associate, Angus Henderson, is much in demand for his award-winning, high-profile, premium residences. Designing from the inside out, he creates spaces that work seamlessly for the people who live in them.

Playing on the majestic location, the way the light falls and the luxury innate in One The Waterfront’s surrounds, Angus has produced interiors of great depth and appeal.We spoke with Angus about his one-of-a-kind designs that bring a beautiful inner glow to these exceptional residences.

What was your inspiration for the interiors?

We were inspired by the notion of resort-style living and all the great amenity found in and around the homes – Sydney Olympic Parklands, the Piazza and One The Waterfront’s own Club One facilities. We wanted to imbue the spaces with that same resort-like atmosphere and ambience.

We also looked at this notion of a “green ribbon” – a binding thread that seamlessly weaves through the project, from Sky Park and Bay Park through to the apartments themselves where timber and stone finishes keep that natural, green mood.

How have you brought this resort ideal inside?

We’ve really played on people’s desire for clean, fresh living and notions of prosperity and health that resorts bring to mind. There’s a fluidity woven into the spaces using a language that is contemporary, classic and crafted.

Spectacular engineered stone forms the bedrock of the designs on the floors and benchtops. Innovative engineered Carrara marble sheets create amazing walls of stone in the bathrooms.

Our signature island kitchens sit as a piece of furniture, wrapped in grey smoked mirror. Threaded

through the interiors we’ve used metallic accents, beautiful gold tapware and gold joinery shadow lines to impart an element of preciousness.

There’s a play of gloss, matte and metallic shine balanced against timbers, delivering textural interest while bouncing and absorbing

light. And, for an added touch of luxury, we often use pelmet lighting instead of downlights.

It’s a very thoughtful and considered design that resonates with the leisurely beauty of the location.
