The International Dark Sky association has recently designated a large area of the county as a Gold standard Dark Sky Park. Northumberland now has the largest protected dark sky zone in Europe. Following this award there are now many opportunities for anyone, regardless of previous knowledge, to enjoy and explore the night sky in Northumberland.
