Activities13 - 15 July 2013 - 35th Annual Bali Kite Festival 2013The 35th Annual Bali Kite Festival, also known as the Sanur Kite Festival,

held on Padanggalak, Sanur. The festival attracting over 1,200 kites in

competition and up to 10,000 spectators. As with every facet of Balinese

life, kite flying is steeped in religious symbolism. It was originally used as

a way to pass on messages to the Gods, and traditional kites, which take

the form of fish (Bebean) and birds (Janggan) depict Hindu deities.

This is a great fun-filled Festival with a carnival atmosphere, the constant

din of competing gamelan orchestras, guitar strumming beach boys, free

flowing beer, cheap food and everyone dressed to impress in local

costume.

Balinese has their unique way to express the devotion to God. From a small

offering to the high tower with colorful flowers and exotic fruits called

Gebogan. One of common offering that can be seen in every ceremony in

every temples is "Banten Pregembal". This offering is made from colorful

dough (dyed rice flour) with mostly white, red, yellow and black color.

The theme used in making Banten Pregembal varies in every districs in Bali.

Some use the folklore with representation of Boma, Bedawang Nala and

Naga Basuki in huge form. In smaller temple or family temple, usually just

use 4 layers (see top left picture). On the top is called "suwah"(decoration),

"birds" (lingga), Human (“manusa" - men and women) and the bottom part

with butterflies form called "penguredan".
