Resource optimizationGeneral

What can be optimized?

-Utilization of the optimal resource in a resource group

-Utilization of the optimal parallel alternative resource in an operation

Resource optimizationHow does the optimization work in a resource group

If in an operation optimization is active, for each resource in the resource group a lead-time scheduling is carried out, taking into account the reserved times for the appropriate resource.

At forward scheduling it is checked, which resource should be used in regard to the earliest end date (shortest lead time). This resource will be used for scheduling and inserted into the operation.

Resource optimizationresource group

Create a resource group with single resources and a plan resource. Set the resource group to directly schedulable, enable automatic optimization.

Page 9: Resource optimization

Resource optimizationresource group

Enable resource optimization for the appropriate operations in routing and in the operation catalogue. (switch in extended tab) Use this switch also for blocking optimization if desired. This switch is also available in the work order, planning tab.

Resource optimizationresource group

Select which resources of the group are included in the optimization. With drag&drop you can define the sequence of consideration.

Resource optimizationresource group

Activate „automatic optimization“ in the resource. This must be done for the plan resource also.

Resource optimization resource group: optimization disabled

Example: In the operation a planning resource which represents the group, is deposited. Optimization is disabled in the operation. The planning resource can now be replaced manually.

Page 14: Resource optimization

Resource optimization resource group: optimization disabled

Example: resource 1201 (one of the group) is deposited, representig the group.Optimization is disabled.

Result: operations are dispatched successively.

Page 15: Resource optimization

Resource optimization resource group: optimization enabled

Now the same example with enabled optimization.

Example: resource 1201 (one of the group) is deposited, representig the group.

In the first work order No 5 the resource 1201 and into the second work order No 6 resource 1202 is inserted.

Page 16: Resource optimization

Resource optimization resource group: change sequence

If you change the sequence of optimization:

Resource 1202 is considered first, only then 1201

Page 17: Resource optimization

© beas group 2011 / Page 17

Resource optimization resource group: optimization enabled

Now resource 1202 is inserted in the first work order No. 5 and resource 1201 into the second work order No. 6.

Resource OptimizationParallel resources

How does the optimization of parallel resources work?

1. All possible constellations are computed.

a) resource 1 with parallel resource 1

b) resource 1 with parallel resource 2

c) resource 2 with parallel resource 1

d) etc.

2. All constellations are simulated.

3. Those with the shortest leadtime are inserted in the work order and used for scheduling.

Resource OptimizationParallel resources

Create 2 identical work orders with 2 parallel alternative resources. Optimization is enabled in work sequence. The optimization of the main resource is the basis for the optimization of the sub-resource. In both work sequences resource INJ_EXT is active. Both work sequences start at the same time.

Resource OptimizationParallel resources

After rescheduling both work orders in work order 5 the main resource 1202 and parallel resource INJ_EXT was inserted. In the work order 6 the main resource 1201 and the parallel resource INJ_INT was inserted.

This is the configuration with the shortest lead time.

The result of the optimization is apparent in the graphical view.

Resource OptimizationGeneral remarks

Further possibilities:

• Next to parallel alternative resources other parallel resources can be included in the optimization

• Tools can be taken into consideration• Parallel resources and alternativ parallel resources can be taken into

consideration, even if they are not utilized at 100%. Thus rough and detailed scheduling can be mixed.

Page 26: Resource optimization

© beas group 2011 / Page 26

Resource OptimizationGeneral remarks

• In the main operation a resource or a planning resource of a resource group with enabled optimization is required. Detailed scheduling must be possible, that means (no capacity overload, only one machine is operated per resource of the group, capacity limits are observed. )

• Full optimization is only possible in forward scheduling.• Optimization of machine groups (one resource with multiple machine work)

is possible only with limitations. Only rough planning by daily capacities is performed.

• The optimization is computationally intensive because all possibilities are simulated.
