Many companies start investing in their communities because they feel it is the 'right
thing to do' but they soon discover there are sound business reasons for doing it.
Companies benefit from a positive influence including:

Impact of volunteering in the Solent
271 employees volunteered time during the last year through
BITC programmes to support local causes.
1,898 hours of employee time invested in communities.
1,553 young people benefited from business engagement.
•The borough of Havant has a number of neighbourhoods which fall within the
most deprived nationally. Leigh Park located a 10 minute drive from LTP faces
significant challenges in relation to education and employment.
•Local charities are facing a shortfall in their income, a number of local ones have
in the last week announced their on the brink of closure (Off the Record, The
Rainbow Centre in Fareham) How can businesses share their business planning
skills not just cash sponsorship?
•Locally it’s a highly competitive job market and for young people it will become
even harder to gain entry level positions with the pending closure of BAE
Shipbuilding in Portsmouth and a high student population in neighbouring
Portsmouth and Chichester.
•There are a number of developments taking place in the Havant area – Dunsbury
Hill, Waterlooville STP site (the old BITC office site) and LTP’s new pub restaurant
and hotel. How do we ensure local residents have the right jobs?
