Vision

GPCA Guiding Principle

Program Development Background and Status

• Performance Metrics Task Force formed in early 2011 to develop scope, definitions and guidance document.

• Guidance document completed and communicated to members during first half of 2011.

– A total of twenty-one performance measures identified with phased implementation over a four year period.

– Phase I reporting limited to eleven measures for 2010.

Program Development Background and Status

• A ninety percent approval rating by member companies resulted in publication and distribution of the Guidance Document by GPCA during 3rd Qtr. 2011.

• The Metrics Task Force was chartered as a Responsible Care Sub-committee in late 2011 to support:

– Implementation of the GPCA Responsible Care Guiding Principles.

– Improvements in the quality of performance reporting leading to overall Responsible Care improvements in the Region.

– Further development RC metrics and provide implementation guidance

2010 Scope, Results,Analysis and Conclusions

• Data for eleven measures requested for 2010

– Occupational Safety (4)– Process Safety (2)– Emissions and Discharges to the Environment (4)– Resource Utilization (1)

• Fifty-five percent (20/36) of the member companies participated.

• Encouraging first step of the journey!

• Data sets provided were generally complete for the Occupational Safety category. Data sets for Process Safety measures were the least complete.

• Large variability exists with some data sets (e.g. quantity of waste water discharged and COD)

– Suggests lack of clarity and/or understanding around metric definitions.

• Trending is needed to provide meaningful analysis for most measures.

• 2011 data sets due April 15th will help.

Occupational Safety Results, Analysisand Conclusions

• Thirty-five percent of the companies that participated (7/20) reported a zero recordable injury rate?

• Worker Safety is better for GPCA Member Companies Reporting compared to US benchmarks for 2009 and 2010.

• Requesting additional data from member companies (e.g. man-hours worked and number of injuries) would allow for a more accurate calculation of regional industry average.

Next Steps

• Promote Member Company reporting in accordance with the Guidance Document. 2011 Performance data is due April 15th.

• Hold a one day workshop in 3rd Qtr. 2012 to enhance member company reporting processes.

• Analyze Member Company data submittals , develop and issue a report covering results for 2010 and 2011 data sets during 2nd half 2012.
