-----original Message----- From: Kent Laborde [mailto:[email protected]]sent: Monday, March 07, 2005 3:42 PMTo: Holbrook, william. F. .subject: Mahoney/Revkin interview

Bill.Andy Revkin has requested an interview with or . Mahoney to discuss CCSP deliverablesand "apparent issues on the chain thru which they'll be approved." He said thediscussion is not solely about Rick Piltz resignation from ccsP, but is related tothe topic. He is avai 1 able tomorrow afternoon fo r a phone interview .

I think th.is interview is chiefl for background, but may lead to a separate articlesolely on this subject. I'm clar1fying this now with Andy and trying to get morespecifics. Is there any specific language we should use? .

Dear climate change Technology Program Principals:I apologize for the multiple email messages on this subject. However, several pointshave been raised from my previous email that deserve clarification, which arepresented below.1. In order to ensure a comprehensive review of the Report and the commentsreceived 1 i t i s hoped that there are about 4-6 members will be on eachsub-comm1ttee, resulting in a total of 28-42 participants on the entire reviewcommittee.2. For planning purposes, the participants should assume a total of about 1 *weeksfor review and meetings. During this time, the participants will review theirrespective chapters, comments and participant in reviewing meetings lasting about 3days in washington D.c. I t i s anticipated that the reviews and meetings will occurin the late August through early September.

    3. The committee m ~ m b e r swill be responsible for: (1 ) reviewing and c o ~ ~ n t i n gonth e chapters to wh1ch t h e ~are assigned as well as the S u m m a r ~for Pol1tymakers andthe Technical summary; (2 reviewing all public comments r e c ~ 1 v e don the chaptersthey are assigned; and (3 participate in a 3 day meeting in washington oc todiscuss and reach consensus on al l comments.

v u.s. Government Review of IPCC Fourth Assessment Report.- Mitigation of climate change --ADDEND!11-13 (mitigation from cross-sectoral, sustainable development, policies)

Much of our work will be performed in the sub-committees where the members will bereviewing the collected public comments. In addition, ali committee members will beasked to review and participate in evaluation of the summary for Policymakers andthe Technical summary.

A preliminary schedule for th e review is as follows:24 July - 23 August: comments received on Draft AR4 Mitigation of climate change

    24 August: Comments collated forwarded to ~ C T P

25 August: CCTP sends c o ~ m e n t sto review committee members6 september - 8 september: committee meeting (venue TBD but likely to be held at DOEHQ in washington DC) . 11 September: Final collation and summary transmitted to state and ccsP.

12-14 september: state finalization of official USG position15 september: state transmittal to IPCC secretariat

This schedule is tight with l i t t le slack; however we need to conform to the IPCCRules and Procedures that stipulate an eight week Government and expert review timeperiod.

Thank you for your support of this very important review process. I f you have anyquestions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.Mike
