Organisation: Selected materials cataloged; remainder arranged.The "Columbia Daily Spectator" has been published since 1877 as the newspaper

of Columbia College. It incorporated and became independent of University•Funding in the 1960s. It is staffed entirely by students of Columbia andBarnard Colleges, primarily juniors.

Summary^ Correspondence and manuscripts including letters from U.S. PresidentsRichard Nixon and Dwight D. Eisenhower; University Presidents Grayson Kirk andWilliam McG'ill; College Deans David B. Truman, Edward W. E'arrett and Henry 6.Coleman; various other officers and faculty of the University, and severalalumni and non-affiliated people. Many of the letters Bre addressed to Alan 5.Lake, editor of the "Spectator" in 1966. Others concern the 1975 Conference atArcien House; the retirement of Dean Chamberlin in 1958; the death of Reed Harris(Columbia B.A., 1932), former State Department Official, in 1982; academicgrading in 1955; the gymnasium in Morningsi.de Park; and a sit-in by theRevolutionary Student Brigade in 1975. In addition, there is a manuscript ofthe 1948-49 "Report on Spectator Development Program."
