What iS an effective viSUaL iDentity?

Clear semantic perception o the Insitution.

Should be bold, direct and memorable.

Unique in its own domain o visual idenities.

Communicate the insitution's persona.

Work well across media and scale.

Work both in black and white and in colour.

What iS LOGO/ SyMBOL?

The logo/ symbol is the ocal point o any

identity system and the key to its acceptance.

Logos are signs, visual or word marks o identity

designed or easy recognition in every part o the world,

rom international corporation, to charities, political

parties, to community groups, Educational Institutions,

etc.

Logo/ symbol help us distinguish one institution

rom another. The way a logo does this is by refecting

visually, the activities, values or attributes that

represent an insitution best-in the view o the

Institute's visionaries.

What DO LOGOS Mean?

Their main purpose is to be inormative (visually)

to convey to whom or what something, someone,

somewhere belongs. Insitutions which branch into

various disciplines o their study domains, usually

depict a vision, a visual statement through their logos;a statement with which one can identiy the institution,

hence are more abstract in nature. To depict a concept

abstraction is preered and the semantics o the orm

potrays the visual attributes.

BaSe Line fOr the SyMBOL-

ShraMOnavarath cheStaya:

Absent in the current identity is the ull nameo the Institute in Devnagari and Roman Scripts,

integrated as a single unit. The objective was to

preserve the line Shramonavarath Chestaya

rom the previous identity and create a complete

new orm (symbol) to suit the changing times.

Patna.

Sun god is worshipped in Patna, Bihar on

the occasion o Chatth Puja. It is also known as

"SuryaShasthi". People observe Chatth puja to

thank the Sun or bestowing the bounties o lie

on earth, as also or ullling particular wishes.

Culture is thereore envisaged through the

visual element "Rising SUN" which is explored

as a common thread through out the symbol.

Sun is the center o all creation. A "Rising Sun"

symbolizes a new awakening, a new begining, a resh

perspective. The Sun emits thousands o rays, sharp

and straight. This thought gets visually translated to

unviel a semi circle (rising Sun) and geometric orms,

creating patterns. Colour pallette is warm, and

inspired rom the concept o a rising Sun.

The name (pride) with the symbol is thereore

upront, clean, ormal and has a proessional look.

The choice o the ont is unique and purposeull.A conscious decision was made so that the current

idenity is dierent rom the exisiting NIT's in the country.

This extraordinary ormal quality o the ont creates an

image, o being crisp, sharp, and precise, in turn giving

an identity, a pride, which is made visually recognizable.

PrOGreSSive eDUcatiOn.

Progressive is moving ahead and seeking or.

Visually the rays o the Sun, emerge, radiate rom the

center, to spread, continuously, disseminating the light

o knowledge. Education is depicted by the lotus.

An abstraction o the lotus petals enriches the visual

image by metaphors o blossoming o the ve senses,

through which we acquire knowledge. Five organs o

knowledge, external actors, touch, taste , smell, sound

and vision. At times, the three inner actors, mind,intellect and ego combine to make it eight.

PriDe.

NIT's are premier institutions o engineering and

technology education in India. Pride here is associated

with the name, NIT Patna. How this name is translated

into a visual identity depends on the choice o the ont

which will represent the title, "NIT Patna".

Metamorphosis rom Bihar college o engineering

to National Institute o Technology Patna triggered

the need or a new identity. A new name, a new ace,

a new begining, which was required to be translated

into a visual langauage, the Institute could reckon with.

The legacy o Bihar college o engineering is retained

by the virtue o the sanskrit words "Shramonavaratha

chestaya". This line (ceaseless eorts) is incorporated

in the new symbol or the same purpose. Keywords

the proessionalism it potrays through the rendering o

its precise curves, it's intricate crat and sensitivity

towards ormalism. The chosen ont is an expression

o the institutions character and refects its values.

as a secondary typeace or all communications

designed and published or Print communications.

is taken to visually match the exact character o

the Roman alphabet. A vector version (outline o

the logotype) is provided in the digital le.

publishing sotwares.

brand recognization.

YELLOW Yellow is primarily the color o happiness,

cheerulness, expansiveness and lack o inhibition.It is the welcome warmth o the Sun and the glow o

a spiritual halo. While calming and relaxing, the color

does suggest a desire or change, that things are never

quite at rest.

RED It is the impulse towards active doing, towards

struggle, competition, and enterprising productivity.

ORANGE Orange is more symbolic o asia,

not western. The Indianess is potrayed through the

use o orange, which is a identity o the symbol.
