Senior Electrical Engineer / Senior Embedded Programmer

OBJECTIVE Full time position with a hi-tech company where my engineering skills will be put to good use. I am looking for interesting work that involves solving engineering challenges.

Desired job:

Project Engineer or Lead Engineer in a new technology field. I prefer working on embedded systems writing software or writing Windows GUI applications, but I have extensive experience in electrical design, mechanical design, and managing projects.

Date of Availability: July 5th 2016

EXPERIENCE 10/2012 -6/2016 Microsoft via Nytec Redmond WA

3.7 years Contract Engineer Microsoft HoloLens project

This was confidential work for the Microsoft HoloLens group. It involved many different tasks, some hardware and some software. I supported the use and testing of prototype

hardware by the Microsoft engineers. Part of the job involved writing Windows GUI applications to aid in testing prototype HoloLens hardware. Other work involved electrical engineering support during new hardware testing. A new Microsoft policy limits contract

vendor work to 18 months, so I was required to leave Microsoft on June 30th 2016.

3/2003 -7/2012 Zetron, subsidiary of

Kenwood Corporation

Redmond WA

9 years Design Engineer IV (Senior Design Engineer)

I worked on many different engineering projects over the nine years at Zetron. Almost all

the projects were embedded systems that performed some sort of communication function. Zetron is a fairly large company (~280 employees) with many product lines. I worked on

both new projects and sustaining projects. The types of work included embedded software design, electrical design, and mechanical enclosure design (using AutoCAD). Some projects were small individual efforts, while other projects were large and involved working with a

team of engineers. One recent project involved writing thousands of lines of C code for an embedded system that interfaced TETRA mobile radios to a desktop telephone like set (the M390). This was completed, shipped on time and then installed in the middle east.

3 years 1/2000 - 3/2003 Engineering

Consultant

Self Employed Consultant Seattle WA

Two longer term consulting jobs involved working for Acorto (now Concordia coffee systems). I completed a 5 month job designing an add on module that turned one of their

Latte machines into a vending machine that would accept coins, bills, and credit cards. This involved the entire project, mechanical design, electrical design, and software writing. A few

months earlier I spent 4 months writing software for a different Latte machine Acorto was manufacturing. This software was part of the changes necessary to connect the Latte machines to a remote FTP server. It involved approximately 6,000 lines of “C” code that

was written and debugged in 600 hours.

15 Years 3/1985 - 1/2000 EMF Corporation Redmond WA

Director of Engineering

Managed the Engineering Department At EMF Corporation. This involved coordinating the efforts of all of the engineering groups: Hardware design, Firmware design, Mechanical design, Engineering documentation, Product Agency approvals, and Technical support. It

also included interfacing to the Quality assurance, Marketing and Finance groups. Initially EMF was focused on the design and manufacture of machines in the paper-handling field. In

addition to the standard EMF machines we did custom projects that included large systems for Xerox and Kodak. This included high speed sorting and stacking systems that were

interfaced to printing presses and/or digital printers. As this market became mature EMF redefined itself and engineering was involved in the creation of the new Internet Kiosk

product line. Most of the time I was a 'working manager' and I was involved in designing the electronics and writing the S/W for most of the embedded systems manufactured by EMF. As an EMF contract engineering job for PhysioControl I managed the project and

personally designed the electronics and wrote all the software for the original PhysioControl AED trainer. The most recent project at EMF was the “Remote Link” project. In addition to managing the project I designed the electronics and circuit boards for the system. The

remote link system included a portable battery powered telephone style intercom with covert video and audio feeds to help negotiators communicate with a suspect in a crisis

situation. I performed all the mechanical design for the elite2, ecom2, and wrote the HTML for the EMF web site. For approximately 10 years I also wrote all the embedded firmware required at EMF.

2 ½ years 8/1982 - 3/1985 Teltone Corporation Kirkland WA

Engineer, Local Area Communications

Work at Teltone involved various telecom products, from a Key System Line Card to a 400

Line Digital PABX. Both H/W and S/W design was included, mostly with Intel processors. I wrote the firmware for the 8 port digital PBX line card.

1 year 7/1981 - 8/1982 Boeing Seattle WA

Senior Engineer, Project Systems Engineer

Boeing work was on the Inertial Upper Stage, a subsystem of the Space Shuttle Program. I was one of three system engineers responsible for avionics integration on the IUS.

2 years 6/1979 - 7/1981 Teltone Corporation Kirkland WA

Engineer

As a new engineer fresh out of graduate school I worked on various Telecom products,

mostly electrical hardware design. M487 line card, small PBX etc.

4 years 6/1975 - 6/1979 University of Washington Seattle WA

Shift Supervisor

At the Academic Computer Center I was in charge of the computer center on weekends

(days) and supervised five other employees. This was part time work during school.

EDUCATION 6/1979 MSEE University of Washington US-WA-Seattle

Master’s Degree Graduate work was in electro-physics and acoustics

6/1978 BSEE University of Washington US-WA-Seattle

Bachelor’s Degree Basic electrical engineering degree, overall GPA 3.73 of 4.00

6/1974 Roosevelt High School US-WA-Seattle

SKILLS Broad range of applied engineering experience:

Analog and digital circuit design, concept to manufactured product experience, use of CAD

tools (AutoCAD 2014, Accel PCB, MS Visual Studio 2010, 2013), budget planning, estimating and tracking, regulatory compliance management, and project scheduling and resource estimation. Use of embedded compilers, linkers, locaters, EPROM programmers,

debuggers. Firmware programming experience with various processors, HCS08, 8048, 8051, 8088, 8188, power PC (both assembler and “C”). . Windows programming

experience writing GUI tools in C and C++.
