Purpose of a Resume (It’s a piece of paper that makes a statement about YOU!
Is a SNAPSHOT of who you are and what you have done
Is a SUMMARY of your skills, experience, and accomplishments
Is a user friendly “catalog” of what you have to offer
SECTIONS ON A RESUME:
Name/Contact Information/Email Address◦ Be sure to use appropriate email address
Education ◦ Current school, GPA if over 3.5, diploma type, college courses, expected graduation date
Academic Achievements◦ List honor societies, academic memberships, academic awards, science fair awards etc.
Work/Volunteer Experience ◦ List part-time, summer jobs, volunteer activities
◦ Each entry should include: When, Where, and What you did
◦ List employers name, position held, and dates including month & year
◦ Use past tense action verbs to list duties and responsibilities, skills used, & accomplishments
Extra-Curricular Activities ◦ List individual activities, sports, or clubs.
◦ List office or position held
◦ Include dates/ years of participation
Skills◦ Language skills, computer skills, leadership skills etc.
Important things to remember:1-2 pages (2 pages maximum)Clear, Concise, & Visually appealing. Bold, Italicize, UnderlineUse bullet points (not paragraphs) Include dates (month & years)Be consistent with formattingUse past tense ACTION verbsCorrect Grammar and Spelling
