Authentic experiences...

Take the opportunity to experience the true culture of Reunion Island and its people. As you pass from one village to the next you will be touched by the friendliness of the local people. Meet local craftsmen, farmers and artists, and share their experiences. Taste local wines and sample some authentic island dishes.

discover Reunion Island“THe SoUTH oF FRAnCe” oF THe IndIAn oCeAnWelcome to Reunion Island, one of the most tantalising islands in the world; a small green dot in the Indian ocean barely 45 minutes by air to Mauritius, 800km west of the African continent and next door to Madagascar.

Here you can hike the valleys and canyons of the Cirques, climb up to Piton La Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, abseil, paraglide, go white water rafting, sail over the island in micro-light aircraft, snorkel and dive on the coral reefs, mountain bike, take a horse ride to the slopes of the volcano or along the beach, learn to surf in St Leu or shop for the latest French fashions in St Gilles and St denis!

Above and Beyond Holidays are the experts on Reunion Island and you will find our self drive itineraries offer a mix of mountains and sea, east and west, north and south. Hire a car and get out and about and mix it with the locals.

Although French is the official language, the local people love to practice their english. We have introduced a unique concept – ‘Village Creoles’ which gives the visitor a true taste of La Reunion where you will meet the local villagers and artisans, eat in typical Creole restaurants and stay in charming guest houses. Any of our tours can be adapted to fit the ‘Village Creoles’ concept.

The wonderful mix of French, African and Indian cultures and the tropical climate ensures that your taste buds will be constantly tempted. Try one of the local curries or a French pastry, hot and fresh out of the oven in Cilaos, or sample the excellent local wines and cheeses. Salazie is well known for its Chou Chou – ‘Chokos’ , the local vanilla rum that’s cheekily spiced for that added kick. And shopaholics will simply not be able to keep away from the markets of St Paul, St denis and St Pierre for local handicrafts and art.
