Thought for Today “The Creator, in taking infinite pains to shroud with mystery His presence in every atom of creation, could have had but one motive - a sensitive desire that men seek Him only through free will.” - Paramahansa Yogananda

Prelude "Nocturne in e minor" by F. Chopin

Announcements

Invitation to Worship & Greeting

*Opening Hymn Let the Whole Creation Cry (#6)

*Responsive Call to Worship Leader: O Lord, our God, how glorious is Your name in all the earth! People: Your glory is sung by all of Your creation! When we look to the

heavens, we see the work of Your hands. Leader: We see the moon and the stars, and we wonder, “who are we that You

care for us and for this world?” People: You are the God of life, crowning us with glory and honor to serve You

all of our days. All: O Lord, our God, how glorious is Your name in all the earth!

*Unison Prayer Holy God, mystery beyond our telling. Your thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are Your ways our ways. And yet, the Scriptures promise us that all Your thoughts are filled with grace, and all Your ways lead us in paths carved by Your love. We come now in trust, but we also confess the times when we could not feel Your presence and doubted Your power. We often lose our way and wander far from the life You intend. Help us to regain our faith as we look in awe to the heavens, and renew our faith in You, the Divine Creator of all that is. The Alpha and Omega of all creation. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.

Hymn of Prayer Meekness and Majesty (#97)

Prayers of the People

Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Scripture Reading Genesis 1:1-19 (NIV) (p.1) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was

light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

Leader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
