… at times greater emphasis is placed on the outward expressions and traditions of some groups, or on alleged private revelations which would replace all else, than on the impulse of Christian piety. There is a kind of Christianity made up of devotions reflecting an individual and sentimental faith life which does not in fact correspond to authentic “popular piety”.

VIRGINIANS FOR ALTERNATIVES FOR THE DEATH PENALTY: VADP will be hosting their annual regional meeting at Incarnation on Tuesday, May 16 at 7:00pm in the Conference Room. Please join us to get updates on what's happening, and participate in discussion around this important pro-life issue!

FOOD MINISTRY-INVITATION: For our food ministry to function, we need people in a variety of roles. Currently, we are looking for help with picking up from Bell Air Farms through the growing season. If you are interested in this or any other aspect of the ministry, contact Sheila in the Parish Office. If you’d rather donate material goods, we accept all food items in the basket in the Narthex, (along with paper bags and empty egg cartons). The item of the week is an easy way to add something small to your grocery list, and donate something that is very needed by our ministry. This week, the item of

the week is spaghetti and pasta sauce. IMPACT CELEBRATION: For people who are network members in our Justice Ministry, don’t forget about our Celebration on May 25 at St. Thomas Aquinas. There will be a pot-luck dinner from 6:00-7:00pm, and the program from 7:00-8:00pm, with an opportunity to invest in the work of justice. If you would like to invest, but can’t make the celebration (or aren’t a network member), please mail a check made out to IMPACT to 1700 University Avenue, with Incarnation in the memo line. GREEN TEAM EnvironMINUTE: God invented the most energy efficient laundry dryer: sun and wind. One idea is to save the energy consuming dryer for emergencies. Drying racks and clotheslines can be used outdoors and indoors for drying laundry. JUSTICE CORNER: By working with 26 other congregations in IMPACT, Incarnation’s Justice Ministry got a Free Dental Clinic added to the free clinic. Since 2008, the clinic has served over 6,000 patients! HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD DAYS: Incarnation participates in the work of Habitat for Humanity, building houses for and with community members in need! No construction experience is necessary, and this is a great way to spend a Saturday living our faith and doing tangible work in the community. We also need people to photograph the event, and provide lunch. Our next build dates are May 20, and July 15. Please check out the sign-up sheets in the Narthex for details and to put your name down! LOVE INC EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: A spiritually mature individual is needed to serve as the Transformational Ministry

Coordinator of a new initiative for Love INC. The position oversees, directs and administers ministerial duties and activities in coordination with volunteers, churches and community leaders in ministry programs designed to transform lives, enhance self-esteem and promote self-sufficiency. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to teach, influence, motivate and coordinate group discussions. Will need to be

competent in computer skills. Would prefer a BA/equivalent in management, ministry, social work, community development or related field. Past experience counts. The position begins as part time, $15/hour, 24 hours per week. Please send resume to Director, Love INC, 198 Spotnap Road, Suite C-1, Charlottesville, VA 22911. CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING 101: The Life and Dignity of the Human Person is the foundation for every other tenant of Catholic

Social teaching. We base all our beliefs concerning other people on the fact that every person is made by God in love, and is thus deserving of both Life and Dignity. This touches on hot-button items, like abortion and capital punishment, but it has an extended reach to other issues. How can we claim to respect the life of persons while denying them healthcare? How can we claim to respect the dignity of individuals if we refuse to meet and know those who have suffered from the cycle of poverty? Every issue is a life issue. Here at Incarnation, we have several people involved at the Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia, and our PACEM team does a wonderful job of treating each of the homeless who comes to our door with

dignity. To learn more, or get involved, contact Sheila!

FOSTER CARE. FOSTER HOPE. CCC is dedicated to the children and youth entrusted to our agency’s foster care program and we recognize the special role that foster parents play in these children’s lives. CCC is blessed to work with a group of passionate individuals who have embraced their calling as foster parents. One foster parent recently shared

the following: “Years ago, I kept seeing the UNICEF pictures of children in need, I wanted to take them all home. I had two children of my own and my husband was not interested in fostering. In my early fifties, I became a single woman and determined that it was the right time to pursue fostering, as I was the sole decision maker. I learned about CCC through one of my coworkers who was fostering through them. It’s been a wonderful ten years of fostering, I wish I had done it a lot sooner. It’s such a rewarding thing to do, the children are so good, they’re wonderful. To give safety and security is a nice thing to do for another human being especially a child. If you accept youth in a trusting and loving way, they respond. If you have fear, doubt or any apprehension, they’ll pick up on it. Just give love. Treat them like your own children.” If you would like to learn more about foster care and foster parenting, please visit our website at www.cccofva.org.
