Brief Description of Event
We have entered the Age where digital media techniques are a vital attribute in an Architect’s repertoire. !is event will be based on utilising this skill by displaying an intervention or ‘spectacle’ in an urban setting in Manchester. Literature in"uenced for this event and very much recommended include Kevin Lynch’s Image of City and Francois Penz’s Architect’s of Illusion.
Day 1:Introduction to project & showcase of previous examples; Visit to each site (sites tbc); Record initial discover-ies on each site (mixed media: sketching, photographs sound & video recordings, you choose!)
Day 2:Discussion of initial #ndings; what is useful? Why? Perception of the area, what do you want to represent in a digital media format?A collection of #ndings presented with order and structure.
Day 3:Present thoughts on choice of spectacle; how can it be introduced into the site? Introduction to video editing using digital media collected
Day 4:Initial testing and experimentation of spectacle on site; How can this be re#ned?
Day 5:Consider alternative methods of representation; what is the most e$ective way to present your intervention?
Day 6:Group presentations of active archive & #nal digital media production. A prize will be given to the group with the most re#ned and creative outcome.

To promote an abstract and creative response of urban space through digital media by imaginatively interacting with the space and the public, thus creating a spectacle or an ‘experience.’ To analyse and reinterpret the narrative embodied in urban space.To think innovatively how to create an urban intervention and how that can be present in a digital media format.To develop media skills and presentational techniques.Event will culminate in digital media presentations showing interventions in the Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre!
