Parking Ticket Woes
By Daisy Del Bozquez, Staff Writer
By Marty Garcia, Co-Editor
Recently, many students have received a nice yellow reminder of Schreiner’s parking policies on their windshield.
Parking permits, although free, have become targets for students who park in lots where their stickers are not allowed. Violators can be fined from $15 to $100 with each individual ticket.
But what lots are open to whom? Communter lots are Central Parking, Hanszen, Ed-ington, North A, and West Parking. Residents cannot park in these lots to leave room for commuters and visitors.
“Blue Parking” located on the
east side of Central Parking and next to Acorn Blvd. in the Wel-come Center parking lot is re-served for students.
Residential lots are monitored and subject to ticketing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The academic lots of Wier, Moody-Trull, and Callioux are monitored between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
Any ticket appeals can be made with an email listing the rea-sons for the ticket and appeal to [email protected]. Appeals must be made within 7 days from the issuing of the ticket.
Space is a vast and infinite wonder that has yet to be ex-plored to its fullest. Many sci-entists look for the answers to unspoken questions by study-ing the way the planets move and how stars become super-novas, among a variety of other things. Many questions circle around Black Holes.
A black hole, according to NASA’s definition, “is a great amount of matter packed into a very small area” where light cannot escape.
Although black holes can’t be studied directly, scientists can study the surrounding matter and how a black hole affects it with an x-ray telescope.
They can see superheated ma-ter that is swirling towards the
event horizon (a straight imag-inary horizon) which reveals how a black hole impacts their environment, their role in the cosmos’s evolution, and the way they behave.
Despite this, black holes have been discovered to originate from a large star that has died in a supernova explosion.
Here’s an interesting fact: hypothetically speaking, through the imaging of high tech com-puter software, if two black holes collided, one possible outcome would result in the smaller of the black holes slingshotting away.
The second outcome cre-ates a Binary black hole, which merges the two together to cre-ate one black hole.

Schreiner Cup:Who Will Win This Year?By Marty Garcia, Co-Editor
All teams, student groups, and organizations are open to regis-ter for this year’s Schreiner Cup, an award presented to the most involved group on campus.
This year, some changes have been made to make participation in the cup easier. Based on an at-tendance scale, the team will re-ceive points based on how many members of their team attend an event.
If over 91% of team members attend, 10 points are awarded. The points reduce as fewer mem-bers attend and so forth.
Groups that hold a service event each month will receive bonus points, and points are also awarded for above-and-beyond efforts while participating.
In 2014, the Men’s Basketball team won the Cup and last year’s victory went to the Mountaineer Mentors group.
The program orignated as a way for the residence halls to come together in friendly com-
petition. Now, all student groups can participate, which makes for more teams and more fun.
The winning group this year will receive a trophy and a team prize. They will also be recognized during the Student Leadership Awards Banquet in the spring se-mester.
For more information, contact Brandi Neely at [email protected].
Good luck to everyone who par-ticipates, and, if your group has not registered, do so ASAP!
