Suspended matter in raw water supplies is removed by various methods to provide water suitable for domestic purposes and most industrial requirements. The suspended matter can consist of large solids, settable by gravity alone without any external aids, and non settle able material, often colloidal in nature. SofteningAll natural waters contain, in various concentrations, dissolved salts which dissociate in water to form charged ions. Positively charged ions are called cations; negatively charged ions are called anions. Ionic impurities can seriously affect the reliability and operating efficiency of a boiler or process system. Overheating caused by the buildup of scale or deposits formed by these impurities can lead to catastrophic tube failures, costly production losses, and unscheduled downtime. Hardness ions, such as calcium and magnesium, must be removed from the water supply before it can be used as boiler feed water.

DemineralizationDemineralization or Deionization is the process of removing mineral salts from water by using the ion exchange process. With most natural water sources it is possible to use Demineralisation and produce water of a higher quality than conventional distillation. A Typical two-bed DM Plant consists of two MS Rubber lined Pressure vessels FRP Vessels/SS 316 Vessel connected in series along with its internal fittings. The first unit consists of high capacity strongly acidic cation exchange resin, which converts positive ions of salt and replaces them with hydrogen ions to form respective acids, which are absorbed in next vessel by strongly basic anion exchange resin. The water obtained by this process shows conductivity less than 20 µ S / cm at 25 Deg C and total dissolved solids less than 10 ppm.

Ultra FiltrationUltrafiltration (UF) is similar to RO and NF, but is defined as a cross flow process that does not reject ions. UF rejects solutes above 1000 daltons (molecular weight). Because of the larger pore size in the membrane, UF requires a much lower differential operating pressure: 10 to 100 psig (0.7 to 6.9 bars). UF removes larger organics, colloids, bacteria, and pyrogens while allowing most ions and small organics such as sucrose to permeate the porous structure.

UASBThe anaerobic reactor is a "Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor" (UASB). This reactor type is very well suited for wastewater. The wastewater enters the reactor through a well designed distribution system and is distributed equally over the bottom of the reactor. This favours the formation of granules and well settling flocs. Subsequently, the wastewater rises in an up flow mode through an expanded bed of anaerobic active methanogenic sludge and leaves the reactor at the top through a gas/collection device that separates the mixed liquor into clarified wastewater, gas and sludge. This "three phase separator" (on top of this reactor) is of the cross flow type and is also equipped with parallel plates. Both these characteristics result in a significant improvement of the sludge separation efficiency.

As compared to conventional technologies FAB reactors are compact, energy efficient and user friendly. Controlled air diffusion FAB based sewage treatment plant works on the principle of attached bacteria growth process supported by specially designed eco-friendly media.
