Setting up your binder:
• Take out your 3 inch binder.• 5 tabs ( warm ups, homework, notes/vocabulary,
classwork, quizzes/tests.• Put some loose leaf paper behind the warm up,
homework and notes tab.• Put some graph paper behind the classwork and
homework tab. • Put your single subject notebook behind the
classwork tab.

Today you will also set up your portfolio.
You will be given a folder.
NEATLY write your name on the folder.
Now listen carefully to what you will be putting inside this folder.

Today we are going to look at multiplying and dividing integers. Let’s discuss some of the rules/strategies that you could use to work with multiplying and dividing integers. What did you learn in sixth grade and seventh grade?
Turn and talk to your partner.

Using any method of your choice, find a solution to:
• 3 x 4• - 3 x 4• 4 x ( - 3)• ( - 3 ) x ( - 4)
Be ready to explain your strategy with the class. It must be a SOUND mathematical strategy.

Take down the following notes on loose leaf paper. Make sure that you have them in your binder, in the notes section.
Multiplication patterns:• When multiplying numbers with the same sign, the sign in your
answer will always be positive.• ( - ) x ( - ) = + and ( + ) x ( + ) = +• When multiplying numbers with the opposite sign, the sign in your
answer will always be negative.• ( + ) x ( - ) = - and ( - ) x ( + ) = -
Division patterns:• Dividing integers can be explained as the inverse of multiplying
integers.• Ex. If 3 x 5 = 15 then the inverse would be 15 ÷ 5 = 3

Time to practice….To practice division rules using INTEGERS, we are going to play a game called FOUR IN A ROW.
• Each pair will be given a game board. DO NOT write on the board.• Each pair will be given color chips.• Each pair will be given two large paper clips.• Decide who is going first.• First person will use a paper clip to choose two numbers. Multiply the
numbers together. Put a color chip on the answer, on the board.• Second person moves only ONE of the paper clips and multiplies
those two numbers together. Put a color chip on the answer, on the board.
• Aim is to get four chips in a row. • Be strategic in your game.

INTEGER RELAY
• Work independently to solve each problem in each set.• Carry the answer from each problem to the next problem
listed in the set.• Match the final answer obtained in each set to a letter at
the bottom of the page.• Place the letters obtained in set order in the row at the
bottom of the page.• The person in each group to arrive at the correct answer
will win a treat.

HOMEWORK
Complete the worksheet MULTIPLYING/DIVIDING integers. Attempt as many as you can. Do NOT use a calculator. You must work at least 30 minutes on tonight’s homework before stopping.
