Reviews of Jake Reichbart recordings, concerts and other live performances In his latest recording, Long Ago and Far Away, Jake Reichbart combines jazz discipline with virtuoso technique and a romantic heart to create a solo guitar sound that rivals the masters. Patiently constructing melodies sweet as maple syrup, he caresses his instrument, giving it the opportunity to resonate deeply, with resolve and devotion. There is also a quality of progressiveness that extends the tradition of prior established modern jazz icons like Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Howard Roberts and Charlie Byrd. In this area, Jake Reichbart can match their passion for excellence. He is a rising star on the jazz horizon, displaying acute expressionism and musical common sense that the world must pay attention to. ‐‐Michael G. Nastos, WEMU Ypsilanti, Michigan Reichbart is a busy performer, both as a solo artist and in various band situations, and his style is perfectly suited to the tunes he has selected. His Chord melodies are well designed, and his attack energetic and percussive at times, with singlenote lines interspersed at the appropriate moments. Long Ago and Far Away represents a nice effort by a very competent artist. It will provide a pleasant listening experience for those who appreciate the techniques and skills required of any musician performing alone. ‐‐Vince Lewis, Just Jazz Guitar, May 2002 issue A great wailing will go up, and there will be a gnashing of teeth among the strum and riff crowd, for here is a guy who can pick melody. Note for note, on the button. You could learn the Great American Songbook from Jake Reichbart get it all down and get it on. Superlatives are somehow not apt because he makes it sound so easy. Judging by this man's apparently effortless ability he would look amazed at any praise, in a sort of "...aw shucks, you guys; everyone can do this, can't they?" Well, of course, not everyone knows their way around the guitar the way Jake does. One imagines the man to be the obvious first choice for studio work. The improvisations are perfectly logical extensions of the themes. There is feeling and depth this is unreal, genius sans sweat. So you spend a few dollars and you get over an hour of quite marvelous music. For simply everyone, except for any other guitarist with shaky confidence. ‐‐Lawrence Brazier, Jazz Now Interactive, June 2002 (reviews continued on next page...)

This is an excellent solo guitar release from Jake Reichbart, full of romance, intimacy, and flawless performance. Once you start this CD, everything disappears except you, him, and that guitar! This is as good as it gets, absolutely stunning work. His improvisations are magnetic, soulful, and will remain with you long after the last note has sounded. Get this one now so you'll be able to say you were there for the beginning!

‐‐Jazzman Online

Long Ago and Far Away is an intimate and sophisticated date for solo guitar. This handsome package of mostly standards boasts professional production values and terrific, warm guitar playing…Jake manages a kind of high wire act ‐he seems to surrender to the emotional moment while maintaining the conscious idea flow. This is a tough act to pull off, and Jake does it with consummate grace… The recording quality throughout Long Ago and Far Away is so fine that it's hard to believe that Jake did it at home in a basement studio ‐but then Rudy Van Gelder made all those classic Blue Note sides in his parents' Hackensack living room!

‐‐Marc S. Taras, Current Entertainment Monthly

By any measure this is an impressive recital. Reichbart has developed an impressive finger technique that allows him to play the guitar as if it were a piano, mixing up chords with single note runs and providing walking bass line accompaniments. He has programmed the CD with care, mixing different tempos and different moods and using a wide range of harmonic voicings. He begins with a lightly swinging version of the title tune and soon arrives at "Moonlight in Vermont." Ever since Johnny Smith laid down his classic version of this chestnut, guitarists approach this some apprehension, just as tenor saxophonists view "Body and Soul." Reichbart offers a lovely personal version, tipping his hat to Smith while putting his personal stamp on the rendition. By the time he arrives at "Blue in Green" he is ready for a sparse, pensive interpretation that pays homage to the classic original Miles Davis version. Guitarists will love this CD, but it offers something for all lovers of swinging, unmannered jazz. ... the resulting sound is clear and pure.

‐‐ Piotr Michalowski, SouthEasten Michigan Jazz Association (SEMJA) Monthly

On his second album, Long Ago and Far Away, (Jake Manages) to combine some crisp execution with an amiable, bright style to illuminate its songs. Reichbart seems to dance through a collection of standards that includes "Tea for Two," "Taking a Chance on Love," and "(I'm) Confessin' (That I Love You)." His version of Miles Davis' "Blue in Green" is perhaps the best song on the album, starting out subtle and spare, then increasing in depth and complexity to expose undercurrents of just barely restrained power, and finally crackling with energy before coming to rest. Its the kind of song that shows this guitarist's flexibility as a musician and makes the listener eager for the next project.

(reviews continued on next page...)

Jake Reichbart has captured the essence of jazz cool in this CD. Jake's guitar stylings are all the way live beatnik coffee house barroom hip. You need this CD. You need it at home and at the office. You most definitely need it for late night in front of the fire with your baby.

‐‐Thayrone X, The Bone Conduction Music Show, WEMU

(On "Long Ago And Far Away") Reichbart uses the lovely melodies as a launching point for his guitar improvisations. Tenderness and beauty are transmitted through his strings, making the recording a delightful excursion. Reichbart is able to input considerable improvised diversity in transforming the themes so that the resurfacing melody line at the end of each tune comes as a gentle reminder. He allots sufficient time on most songs to explore the improvising possibilities, which translates into substantive music even though the tunes themselves are lyrically based. Song selection also contributes to the success of the disc. Tunes such as the title cut, “Moonlight in Vermont” and “Poinciana” are perfect vehicles for exploiting his style while still providing space for openness. It is a very well done recording and a great showcase of Reichbart’s talent.

‐‐Frank Rubolino, Cadence, March 2002 issue

If you don't like Jake Reichbart's CD, when I see you I'll speak in sign language.

‐‐Alan Rock Mornings, WUCF Orlando, Florida

Jake Reichbart is more than a skilled craftsman; he is a sensitive musical stylist. He seeks out the unusual standard or applies a new spin on a well‐worn melody such as his take on "Tea for Two"…Jake's precision as a musician extends to the audio quality of the disc, because Jake painstakingly recorded it in his home studio. So, if you fear that a solo guitar CD will recede in to the woodwork if you want to listen to it while cleaning house or working on the computer, worry not. Jake has paid attention to all the details‐‐in recorded quality as well as masterful music making. A tasty treat, indeed!

‐‐Linda Yohn, Music Director, WEMU Ypsilanti, Michigan

The art of the Jazz guitar is alive and well in the talented hands of Jake Reichbart. His latest CD 'Long Ago and Far Away' demonstrates his clear understanding of the sensitivity and sheer feeling needed to interpret a challenging genre. Look forward to a bright career and great jazz from the artistry of Jake Reichbart.

‐‐Mike Smith, SkyJazz Internet Radio www.skyjazz.com

(reviews continued on next page...)

(Long Ago And Far Away is) a great CD, professionally done, with music that's a perfect fit for the sound of our jazz show…

‐‐Marty Scarbrough, KASU‐FM Program Director, State University, Arkansas

Apparently nobody has told Jake Reichbart about the sophomore jinx! His second CD Long Ago And Far Away is busting with the energy, excitement and execution captured in many initial recordings. Anyone that can do what he’s done to high‐mileage standards like “Tea For Two” and “Poinciana” is a player!!!! It’s been said that one is a lonely number, but that’s not the case with this solo project. Insert this disc into your CD player and it won’t take you long to get far away with Jake Reichbart’s amazing artistry.

To whom it may concern:

I am quite happy to recommend Jake Reichbart as a jazz musician for library concerts, after-hours affairs, and feel-good mood music. We have hosted Mr. Reichbart and his fantastic guitarskills twice in the last year and have been very pleased with his work, his professionalism, andbits of humor.

Our relationship with Mr. Reichbart began with our search through the Michigan HumanitiesCouncil Arts & Humanities Touring Directory for skilled, local performers. Mr. Reichbart's firstconcert was in the library proper (on a Sunday no less) during the winter holiday season; wereceived no complaints regarding the music and reference staff on hand during the performancesaid the mood of the library was visibly lightened by the music.

Mr. Reichbart's second concert was held during the summer in our library pavilion. Thoughthere were concerns that one person could not carry an outdoor show at our venue, Mr. Reichbartpulled it off with flying colors, lending his improvisational chops to Stevie Wonder, Beatles, andjazz and popular tunes of the 50's and before. After the concert, many of the audience membersbought CD's and befriended Jake on his website.

We hope to host Mr. Reichbart as a regular annual performer for years to come and wouldrecommend him whole-heartedly to any library interested in quality music. Please feel free tocontact me with further questions.

Sincerely,

Andy SchuckReference [email protected]

To Whom It May Concern:

Mr. Jake Reichbart has been performing as a guitarist, on a "semi regular" basis, in ourrestaurant for the past five years.

I have found his special brand of solo guitar music to be a perfect fit for the diningexperience at our restaurant. While the music is certainly a pleasure to listen to, it is alsosoft and never interferes with guests' conversations or wait staff taking orders, even thosein close proximity.

In addition, Mr. Reichbart is very reliable and punctual. He is very pleasant with ourguests and staff alike, making the evenings on which he performs special occasions. Weplan on having him back as often as both our schedules allow.

Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.
