The theme of the Twentieth Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin AmericanLibrary Materials, which will meet in Bogota, Colombia June 15-20, 1975at the invitation of the Instituto Colombiano de Cultura, will be "NewWriters of Latin America." The program is being planned by Emma C.Simonson, Latin American Librarian of Indiana University, Bloomington,who is the President of SALALM, with a committee composed of Donald F.Wisdom of the Library of Congress and David S. Zubatsky of WashingtonUniversity, St. Louis, from the United States and Drs. JORGE Rojas,Eduardo Santa, and Gaston Litton from Colombia. A session is plannedwith the new writers (literary), one on the production and distribution ofpublications, one on bibliography, one on the role of Latin Americangovernments in producing, distributing and financing literature, and a finalone on two approaches to new writers: the literary review and recordings.There will be book displays by publishers and dealers.

Cooperating in the conference will be the Centro Regional para el Fomentodel Libro en America Latina (the UNESCO Regional Center on Productionand Publishing for Latin America), with the Director, Dr. Arcadio Plazas,presiding at the session on book production and distribution, the InstitutoCaro y Cuervo, the Convenio "Andres Bello", the Camara Colombiana dela Industria, the Fondo Colombiano de Investigaciones Cientif icas. and thelibrarians of public and private libraries in the country. In addition to theprogram committee, a number of other committees are involved in planningfor the Seminar, some concerned with contacting appropriate governmentofficials, educators and librarians throughout Latin America, others withfinancial aspects of the conference, and some with planning fortransportation and lodging of the participants. Luis Eduardo Acosta Hoyosand J. Noe Herrera, Manager of Libros de Colombia, are coordinatingplanning in these areas.

Names of the writers who will be participating and full details of theprogram are expected to be released in January 1975. In the meantime,inquiries concerning the program may be sent to Mrs. Emma C. The bookreviews normally should be between 2 and 4 typewritten pages and may bewritten in English or Spanish. The original--with one copy--and returnpostage are requested. General Information.' The Journal publishes scholarly articles dealing withthe literatures of Spain and Spanish America in this century. The periodicalappears three times annually (Spring, Fall, and Winter). Manuscripts arewelcome. They should be between 12 and 25 typewritten pages andprepared in accordance with the MLA style sheet all notes at the end. Theoriginal, an abstract, and one additional copy of both must be accompaniedby return envelope and postage. Manuscripts may be written in English orSpanish. Subscription is $8 per year ($15 for 2 years).
