Advanced document processing “printing” The magicolor

® 2490MF printer driver provides several advanced document processing functions

for printing documents: 1. Printer-based electronic collation 2. N-up printing 3. 2-sided/booklet printing 4. Form overlays 5. Watermarks

1. Printer-based electronic collation

Collation refers to sorting multiple printed copies of a multi-page document into the proper order.

Printer-based electronic collation means that the document file is transmitted to the magicolor 2490MF only once, and the sorting is done at the printer.

2. N-up printing

The n-up option allows 2, 4, 6, 9, or 16 pages of a multi-page document to be printed on a single sheet of media. You can also add a border line around each page and specify the flow of the pages across the sheet.

3. 2-sided/booklet printing

The duplex option provides the option to print both sides of the paper which not only is more cost efficient, but it produces less paper waste for the environment.

Booklet printing allows users to print professional brochures in-house for a fraction of the cost. Due to a built-in scaling function, your printing device will automatically convert A4 sized pages to A5, and place them in the correct order so that the printed output is a ready-made booklet.

4. Form overlays

A cost effective tool which allows you to merge your document with company letterhead, reducing the need for pre-printed stationery. Forms overlay can also save a lot of time when printing a mail shot, for example, the letter can be stored as a form directly on the printer. A form overlay is a print file that is printed either on the first page or on all pages of a document.

5. Watermarks

A watermark is a word or phrase that is repeated on each printed page. Common text watermarks such as “CONFIDENTIAL” and “DRAFT” can be added to a document or a custom watermark can be created.

Advanced document processing “copying” The magicolor

® 2490MF control panel provides advanced document processing

functions for copied documents: 1. Copier-based electronic collation 2. 2 in 1 copying 3. 2-sided copying

1. Copier-based electronic collation

Multiple copies of multi-page originals can be sorted into sets with the pages in the proper order by using the Collate key on the control panel. The entire document is scanned into memory, and then each copy is printed with its pages in the proper order.

2. 2 in 1 copying

To save paper, use the 2 in 1 key on the control panel to copy two originals onto a single page. Note: 2 in 1 copying must be performed through the automatic document feeder, not from the flatbed glass.

3. 2-sided copying

As with printing, 1-sided or 2-sided originals can be made into 2-sided copies either manually or automatically. To use the optional duplexer to make 2-sided copies, enable duplex printing via the “function” key on the control panel. Two-sided copies can be made from the automatic document feeder or the flatbed glass.

Copy resolution

Two copy resolutions are available: o Fine (2400 x 600 dpi) o Normal (1200 x 600 dpi)

Copy quality can be enhanced by adjusting lightness and density as well as by specifying the type of document (text, photo, mixed) being copied.

Copy zooming

Copies can be resized easily by using the 50-200% zoom function. All features are available through one-touch keys on the control panel.

Dedicated Fax functionality Sending and receiving digital documents has never been so easy. With the internal ECM/Super G3 fax modem built in. This powerful fax module will give an extra dimension to sending and receiving faxes. The user has the ability to configure the printer, network and fax settings through the PageScope Web Connection. PaperPort SE document handling Scanning

The magicolor® 2490MF and PaperPort

® SE work together to provide an easy way to

convert paper documents to digital documents for easy file sharing. Documents and photographs can be scanned using either the TWAIN or WIA scan driver.

Saving scanned files

Scanned files can be saved in PDF, JPEG, TIFF, and other common file formats. Touching up images

Once a document has been scanned, PaperPort® SE provides a number of tools that

allow it to be further customized. Image files (such as PDF, BMP, JPEG, and TIFF) can be imported directly into PaperPort

® SE for customization.

Image-editing tools include rotate, straighten and auto straighten, enhance and auto enhance, sharpen, remove red eye, crop, erase, remove stray dots, and improve lines.

Annotating pages

The annotation tools in PaperPort® SE allow you to add notes and text, highlight text,

draw lines and arrows, and stamp bitmap images on a page. Annotations added to PDF and PaperPort

® Image (.max) files can be edited at a later date while annotations added

to other image files become a permanent part of the image. Optical character recognition

Scanned text documents can be easily converted to editable text simply by dragging and dropping them to a word processing program (such as Word). PaperPort

® SE

automatically processes the scanned document, using its Optical Character Recognition (OCR) functionality, and then opens the editable text in the word processing program.

Organizing image files

The PaperPort® SE visual interface makes it easy to visually organize scanned

documents, digital photographs, and other image files.

The default file folders can be copied, moved, rearranged, renamed, and colour coded for easy identification and classification, and new file folders can be added. Image files can be moved to any folder simply by dragging and dropping.

Once items have been organized into file folders, they can be located using the PaperPort

® SE Simple Search feature, which allows files to be searched for by name,

author, added comments, keywords and annotation text.

FaxTalk communicator Even though the magicolor

® 2490MF has an internal fax modem installed, fax software is still

available. Sending and Receiving digital documents

The magicolor® 2490 MF also includes FaxTalk communicator, PC

Fax software which provides the tools needed to manage fax communications at your PC.

This software allows you to send and receive digital faxes, drag and drop scanned documents from PaperPort

® SE, automatically print

received faxes, view and annotate faxes, and view fax logs. In addition, with the appropriate local modem, the PC can be used as a speakerphone and answering machine. Using the send log

The Send Log contains information about faxes that you have sent from FaxTalk communicator. You can track the status of the faxes, view a sent fax, print hard copy records of transactions, and resend faxes if necessary.

The “Send To” bar at the bottom of the PaperPort® SE desktop provides a series of icons for

programs that you can use with PaperPort® SE.

Once the fax icon is equated with FaxTalk communicator, you can drag and drop documents scanned in PaperPort

® 2490MF uses a multi-pass colour laser technology developed by Konica Minolta. This

multi-pass technology improves the printing precision and is also responsible for the compact appearance of the magicolor

® 2490MF.

The print head has been further developed especially for the magicolor

new optical technology allows for a wider angle, which in turn greatly diminishes the distance between the print head and the paper. A compact printer is the result.

Automatic Colour Calibration eAIDC (Enhanced Automatic Image Density Control) is the automatic colour calibration technology that optimises the colour consistency. PictBridge Konica Minolta is the first vendor to implement PictBridge function into colour laser printers. This gives users the possibility to print photos direct from their digital camera without using their computer. The photos can be printed on 2400 x 600 dpi with plain/thick paper to have a good sharp result. PictBridge is a standardised technology which lets users transfer images from the memory card in a PictBridge compatible digital camera directly to a printer, all without a computer or photo editing software. They connect their digital camera directly to the magicolor

® 2490MF via the USB cable that

is provided with their camera. Print size, layout, date and other settings can be controlled from the camera or from the magicolor

® 2490MF operational panel. The Digital camera settings will overrule

the magicolor® 2490MF settings.

Once they connect a PictBridge digital camera to the magicolor

® 2490MF print options appear on the

camera's monitor (LCD). They can print an image displayed on the camera; print two or more images selected on the display, or print all your images. They can even print part of an image by cropping it first within the camera. They can also create index prints (contact sheets) of all images on a memory card. For this system to work, the digital camera must support PictBridge. Compatibility can be checked by looking for the PictBridge logo or by reviewing the digital camera specifications. How It Works With PictBridge, all users have to do is capture images with their digital camera and connect the camera to a magicolor

® 2490MF via a USB

cable. PictBridge takes care of all the details, no matter what brand of camera is in use.

1. When connecting a PictBridge compatible camera to the magicolor® 2490MF, built-in software automatically

recognizes each device. 2. The camera compares its PictBridge functions to those of the magicolor

® 2490MF.

3. The camera displays the supported functions on menus, usually on an LCD screen or in the viewfinder. 4. Through the camera's menus, they can send commands to the printer to select photos, print multiple copies,

crop, and so on, depending on the available functions. 5. The printer returns a message to the camera indicating that the job is complete (or identifying any errors).
