Revolution Through Art
This painting is the symbol of the French revolution which lasted from 1789-
1799. The lady in the painting is referred to as
lady liberty and is suppose to represent the common
people wanting liberty from the French monarchy. The
artist, Eugene Delacroix seems to be in support of
the revolutionary movement.

This political cartoon shows the artists opinion
of the world super powers of the time period, Britain and
France. The leaders of each power are depicted
slicing the world up for themselves as though it
is a piece of meat showing the artists
disdain for the 2 leaders and there actions.

Storming the Bastille 14 July 1789
A Famous painting and moment of the French
revolution this represents the conflict in France during the revolution. The Bastille
was a huge prison that held enemies of the crown
especially those that would encourage revolution
against the monarchy. In this painting the artist
represents the awe and terror of the revolution.
Execution of Louis XVI
This painting represents the end of the French
revolution with the beheading of Louis XVI and the end of the monarchy in France. This was a positive
step towards a people’s government. The painting really shows the mood of the time particularly with
the common folks cheering.
The Guillotine The Guillotine was a
invention of death beheading the victims
forced on to it. The machine got its name from Dr. Louis Guillotin who suggested it
be used for all public executions. The most famous execution the
guillotine was responsible for was that of king Louis of
France.
