revolution txff the - women texas film festival...
TRANSCRIPT
The Women Texas Film Festival’s (WTxFF) inaugural three-
day event at the Texas Theatre will showcase the range
and depth of female-driven visual stories.
THE NEED
Not only are women severely under-represented in
filmmaking and gaming, they are hamstringed by the
expectations of their voice.
TV shows like “Jessica Jones” and “Lady Dynamite,”
filmmakers like Kathryn Bigelow, Mary Harron, Ava DuVernay,
Jennifer Kent, Ana Lily Amirpour and Karyn Kusama are
showing that the female voice can be much more than dramas
and rom-coms.
Women need to be shown side by side with a more robust
display of their voices. Female filmmakers are not just for the
art-house. They are action-packed, terrifying, gritty voices as
much as they are character driven, beautiful, and profound.
UNDERREPRESENTATION
85% of films had no female directors

“As a producer and actress, I know the struggle women go
through to produce, direct, and get hired for jobs both behind
and in front of the camera. The Women Texas Film Festival will
be a much needed showcase for work by female film artists
and offer up more opportunities for professional connections
for all of that attend the screenings, panels, and events.”
JOIN TOGETHER
WHAT WE’RE
DOING
HOW IT WORKS
WTxFF is looking to be its own market, curating the best in women’s
filmmaking with an eye towards luring networks, buyers, agents, studios
and producers to scope out female talent in our industry. Currently, WTxFF
has already begun hosting mixers comprised of filmmakers, publicists,
community stakeholders and film lovers to rally support and earn
commitments from the community to help support our mission and make
the inaugural WTxFF event a success.
Our first WTxFF will be a step towards fulfilling its mission to celebrate
women who lead in filmmaking, virtual reality, and game design. Joining
together with a community of stakeholders and powerhouses, our goal is to
work to develop a dynamic platform for women in filmmaking, the
storytelling arts and technology. We’re not shrinking the gender gap. We’re
destroying it.
We intend to host several female directors, writers, cinematographers and
composers from our chosen films for panels and events to showcase the very
best in the field and put a spotlight on the female film artists behind the
camera. As women are extensively underrepresented in this field, it is our
goal to provide a dedicated platform for them. WTxFF will also educate and
cultivate a culture of supportive female leaders in filmmaking as well as
other creative ventures and productions through fostering networking,
collaboration and mentoring opportunities.

The State of Texas:
Texas’ Arts and Culture Industry also plays a major role creating and sustaining jobs. Directly, the industry creates, distributes, and sells products and services to national and international markets. This creates a demand for nearly 10,000 Arts and Culture Industry businesses located throughout Texas, employing over 110,000 workers.
Attracting Innovation Leaders:
Additionally, supporting a strong arts culture has a noted ripple effect in the jobs market, attracting innovation workers and luring cutting-edge companies to set up shop within cities who demonstrate a vibrant and thriving arts and culture scene.

“Justina Walford has an eye for the edgier side of female-
driven films as well as having the insight that comes from
being a filmmaker of those films herself. I’m surprised that
Texas hasn’t had a female-focused film festival of this
scope before, but I am excited and overjoyed that she
would lead the charge to create one.”
Justina Walford is a critically acclaimed writer, producer, director, and performer of various types of storytelling on screen, stage, and print.
Currently, the Founder and Director of the inaugural edition of the Women Texas Film Festival, Walford was formerly the Artistic Director of Split Id Staged Performances in Hollywood. During that time, she produced a dozen full-length productions and countless one-night shows, many of which were her original work. Her popular storytelling event "Memoirs of an Almost Geisha" was noted for showcasing Asian-American women and their stories of identity. Walford was praised by both the LA Weekly and Backstage West for her works and a proud recipient of the Women in Theater Red Carpet Award.
In 2010, Justina left Los Angeles for New York and began creating movies with husband John Wildman, including co-writing and producing the horror thriller, THE LADIES OF THE HOUSE, shot in Dallas and available on VOD. The film received descriptions of “an instant classic” (Dread Central), “potential cult classic” (Awards Circuit), and “a 21st Century cult classic” (Lucky Girl Media) among other critical praise. A current board member for Sunday, Assembly NYC and Women in Film Dallas, Walford has built a reputation for bringing people together in three major cities (Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas), and is dedicated to utilize that talent to promote and show the range of stories women tell across all media.
LEADERSHIP TEAM
John Wildman is a multi-faceted presence in the film and film festival world, known for his work as a film and film festival publicist, consultant, filmmaker, journalist, and critic.
Wildman was the Senior Publicist for The Film Society of Lincoln Center, FSLC’s New York Film Festival, New Directors/New Films, and the Chaplin Award Gala, among many film festivals, series and events at Lincoln Center, the Director of Press and Public Relations for the American Film Institute, as well as the three film festivals under their umbrella at that time (AFI FEST/AFI DALLAS/Silverdocs), and the AFI Life Achievement Award, as well as a host of other film festivals and events across the country.
Currently, Wildman is the Head of PR for the DALLAS International Film Festival, Tallgrass International Film Festival, Oxford FF, Oak Cliff FF, and Sidewalk FF. He is a host on The Daily Buzz NPR broadcast reporting from Sundance, Toronto, and Cannes, and writes a column for Festworks.com entitled “Films Gone Wild.” Wildman was formerly a contributor to Film Comment.com and Film Threat, as well as several publications prior to that, including Movie City News and Moving Pictures Magazine.com. His feature film directorial debut, the grindhouse art-horror thriller THE LADIES OF THE HOUSE was released to critical acclaim in 2015.

Daphne Taylor Street is a freelance writer, nonprofit development consultant, communications consultant, public speaker and internet radio personality. She has been a professional writer and development executive for more than 20 years. This was a rather unnatural progression from her first career in the performing arts as a classically trained vocalist.
In the summer of 2011, Daphne left her full-time staff writing job to pursue her freelance writing and consulting business in full-force, and she has now written many published articles, ghost written several books for clients and has two co-authored books soon to be released. Her past successes include securing tens of millions of dollars in contracts and venture capital over the course of her career; she now uses similar strategies to tell compelling stories, amplifying the value of brands and causes while moving audiences to take action.
