Introduction

The fifth edition of Rewire Festival will take place on May 1 & 2, as opposed to the previous four editions which were held in November. Moving the festival to spring proved to be a huge challenge, so quickly after the completion of the 2014 edition. It offers a test case for our festival to see if this particular timing will benefit us in the long term.Rewire 2015 will be presented across sev-en venues ranging from the industrial E.ON Electriciteitsfabriek, the versatile Korzo theatre, the beautiful Oud-Katholieke Kerk to underground club HOOP, Idazaal and the biggest ánd smallest pop ven-ues in town; Paard van Troje and 330 Live. Each venue reflecting the specific re-quirements for particular performances. The programme includes multidiscipli-nary performances, concerts, club nights, workshops and talks. With the 2015 programme we wanted to present the most diverse selection of art-ists, genres and styles so far shown within the Rewire context, a framework which we have developed carefully over the past four editions. During our extensive two day programme you can expect many exciting artists; whether internationally acclaimed or local talents in the field of contemporary electronic music, new jazz, hiphop, experimental pop, modern com-position, sound art and multidisciplinary performances. The programme reflects on the constant stream of developments in contemporary and electronic music. It challenges the festival visitor to explore new sonic territories more than ever be-fore, as we’ve made way for more relative-ly unknown artists compared to our pre-vious edition. We invite our audience to explore our curatorial goals more in great-

er depth than before. Projects presented by Holly Herndon, Julianna Barwick, Jenny Hval & Susanna and MGBG represent an artistic practice where the voice serves as central theme. Godspeed You! Black Em-peror, Siinai, Gnod, Cult of Dom Keller and Gut & Irmler offer an interesting mix of post-rock, spacerock and psychrock thats seems ever more present in modern inde-pendent music culture. The route consist-ing of Shabazz Palaces, Neneh Cherry & Rocketnumbernine, Dandana and Mbong-wana Star explorers a context where hiphop, experimental pop, 70’s psych, Af-rican and electronic music blend. Rewire continues to focus on the exciting amal-gamation of impro, free jazz, noise and electronica with performances of Yodok III, Jac Berrocal + David Fenech + Vincent Epplay, Chris Corsano & Mette Rasmussen, Oren Ambarchi and Tomas Järmyr. Two artists who are well known for their devo-tion to (modular) synthesizers are Thomas Ankersmit and Alessandro Cortini. Anker-smit explorers the endless possibilities of the Serge synthesizer while Cortini has earned his stripes working with the Bu-chla synth and most recently the Roland MC 202. Our extensive clubprogramme reflects on the ever evolving club scene. From post-internet sounds of TCF, Holly Herndon and Evian Christ to showcases of leading underground labels such as L.I.E.S. and Diagonal. These are just a few high-lights of the extensive programme. This booklet will offer a complete overview of the programme. We have tried to be as complete as possible, but for last minute updates, please refer to our website.

We wish you a very inspiring stay at our festival.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor caGodspeed You! Black Emperor is a multidis-ciplinary collective from Montréal, Canada. The group, originally formed in 1994, has been highly influential within the post-rock genre. Working with orchestrated arrange-ments, the nine-piece group create tracks with wide dynamic ranges, a highly evoca-tive use of instrumentation and sounds and uncompromising long form compositions.

Total Life caKevin Doria of Growing has a new solo pro-ject, Total Life. Ad Hoc magazine wrote of Doria’s new work: “If Eliane Radigue and Kevin Drumm made a record together it might sound something like Total Life. Kevin Doria creates a sound world with deep inner dynamics shrouded by distor-tion. Whether you stay on the surface or lis-ten deeply, the energy in this work is vivid.”

E.ON ElectriciteitsfabriekDOORS OPEN 20.00

Grouper usGrouper is a recording and performing project by Liz Harris. She lives and works in Astoria, OR. Following the release of lat-est album ‘Ruins’ on Kranky, she presents a new set of songs, ambient sound and field recordings with original films by Paul Clipson.

Evian Christ ukEvian Christ is a UK-based abstract hip-hop/downtempo producer, who is best known for his releases on the Tri Angle Records label. 2014 saw the release of his critically acclaimed ‘Waterfall’ EP. As Pitchfork com-mented; “The music is bursting with color and the surges are palpable, and you can almost see the legions of head-banging festival-goers whenever tracks hit a big peak.” Further to this, Evian Christ came to the notice of Kayne West, who asked him to co-produce one of the tracks on West’s ‘Yeezus’ album. Evian Christ will present a brand new A/V show at Rewire, in collabo-ration with live visual artist Emmanuel Biard.

Holly Herndon usHolly Herndon has become a leading light in contemporary alternative and electronic music by fearlessly experimenting within the outer reaches of dance music and pop songwriting structures. Herndon is known for her releases on RVNG Intl. and uses the programming language Max/MSP to create custom instruments and vocal processes to create her inimitable brand of cyber pop music. Her second album ‘Platform’ will be released in May on 4AD and will be pre-miered live in The Netherlands with a special A/V show at Rewire 2015.

Lorn usLorn is the alias of American electronic mu-sician Marcos Ortega, who is best known for his releases on the renowned labels Brainfeeder and Ninja Tune. With his unique production style, Lorn creates dark and

brutal but often beautiful electronic music. Lorn is also known for composing the mu-sic for the video game, ‘Kill Zone Shadow Fall’ that was developed by the Dutch com-pany, Guerrilla Games. Rather than release a new full-length LP, Lorn spent most of 2014 releasing a run of free-to-download EPs known as the ‘Maze to Nowhere’ series. At this year’s Rewire Festival Lorn will pres-ent a brand new A/V show.

Saskia Lankhoorn / Kate Moore present Dances & Canons nl/auSaskia Lankhoorn is a dedicated pianist from the Netherlands. Lankhoorn has a deep interest in the work of composer Kate Moore, one that saw her release an LP of Moore’s work, ‘Dances & Canons’ in late 2014. Lankhoorn displays a lyrical freedom with her touch and approach that reaches beyond the structural and technical de-mands of Moore’s score. Her insights into Moore’s pieces, and her sensitivity to their sonic possibilities, are based on more than a decade of close collaboration with the composer.

TCF noArtist, graduate of Frankfurt’s famed Städelschule, and “experimental computer musician” formerly known as Cracksmurf, Lars Holdhus’s work as TCF explores themes of code, cryptography and privacy. To do this he creates a dizzying, often inspiring mash of visual, sonic, built and written concepts. Boomkat raved about his recent release, ‘415C47197F78E8’… on Liberation Technologies: “Ultimately, words fall well short of adequately describing this stuff; it simply needs to be experienced, fully im-mersed… pupils dilated.”

Alessandro Cortini itWell known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Cortini also busies himself with a number of other projects; namely SONOIO, Modwheelmood and blindold-freak. At Rewire, Cortini will play his new solo LP ‘Sonno’; for the first time in the EU. ‘Sonno’ – a staple of many end of year lists – was recorded in hotel rooms using a Roland MC 202 put through a delay pedal, sometimes straight into a small portable speaker system. Boomkat were sufficiently moved to write that this in-triguing, surprisingly emotional LP is “essential listening for anyone who can’t get enough of classic material from ENO or AFX and bored with cheap imitations. Highly Recommended.”

Korzo IIKORZO OPEN FROM 18:30

Bronze Teeth ukBronze Teeth (L/F/D/M’s Richard Smith and Factory Floor’s Dominic Butler)have all-embracing love of electronic music and all its permutations – from Norman McLaren and Terry Riley to Powell. But what really floats the duo’s boat is the early ’90s rave scene; an often-quoted, but at the same time overlooked era; one that experimented gloriously be-tween a plethora of styles and attitudes. Bronze Teeth take this era’s confidence and colour but display a knack for get-ting straight to the point.

Gut & Irmler deTwo giants of the German experimen-tal electronic music scene join forces at Rewire 2015; Hans Joachim Irmler, from legendary Krautrock agitators Faust, and Gudrun Gut of Malaria!, Einstürzende

Neubauten and Monika Enterprise. Their different approaches to music - the Krautrock-informed explorations from Irmler and the hedonistic techno from Berlin-based Gut - were brought togeth-er in their acclaimed collaborative album, 2014’s ‘500m’, recorded at the Faust stu-dio in 2013. The Gut & Irmler performance is presented in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut

Powell ukPowell looks to fuse live instrumentation, destitute samples, raw synth tones and quickfire bursts of analog noise; elements which jostle around sinister, muscular grooves that drift across unconventional rhythmic structures. He takes a pride in merging disparate references into some-thing intense, coherent and unexpected. Unsurprisingly, Powell’s DJ sets are fast,

unpredictable and surprisingly inclu-sive. Powell established his own imprint Diagonal in 2011 and released EPs on Mute’s Liberation Technologies and the Boomkat-affiliated label, Death of Rave.

Ron Morelli usQuietly kicking around the grime of the New York City underground for some time, Ron Morelli started the L.I.E.S. label in 2010, as an outlet to release the music of a tight-knit group of friends who were making challenging music that reflected the musical changes in the underbelly of that city. Morelli is well known for both his demanding (sometimes grinding) DJ style and a punishing work ethic. When time allows, Morelli also produces music under the monikers of L.I.E.S., U-202, Two Dogs in a House (with Steve Summers), and Bad News (with Doug Lee).

Shit and Shine us/ukShit and Shine is a London-based group, com-prising of an array of British and American musicians. Its typical line-up has multiple drummers and guitarists, reminiscent of a number of percussive-oriented post-psy-chedelic bands. Their 2012 LP, ‘Jream Baby Jream’, “continued to investigate the possi-bility of an electronic dance music that con-founds dancers.” This spring, Shit and Shine returns with a new album under the magnif-icent title of ’54-Synth-Brass 38 Metal Guitar 65 Cathedral‘, on which the group creates a krautrock-meets-minimal wave sound.

Svengalisghost usAn enigmatic and witty individual whose music has undergone a series of changes and mutations; SvengalisGhost’s Muse has been mainly driven by a love of leg-endary DJ Ron Hardy, early House and the 1990s Chicago loft party scene. According to his entertaining biography; “In 2008 he lost all of his music from a malfunctioning external hard drive. Severely distraught he underwent a symbolic death as a stu-dio producer and was reborn as the per-former SvengalisGhost: a child of light and magic. He uses hypnotic rhythms and a fork tongue to seduce thru coercion.” Intriguing stuff.

Thomas Ankersmit presents ‘Eartones’ nl“Thomas Ankersmit is a musician and instal-lation artist who lives and works in Berlin and Amsterdam. Since 2006 Ankersmit has based work round a love of working with the Serge analogue modular synthesizer. His electronic music is characterized by a

deliberate misuse of this instrument; us-ing feedback and disruptions in the signal to create dense but finely detailed swarms of sound. His latest LP, ‘Figueroa Terrace’, created music for the original Serge syn-thesizers at CalArts and was released by the Touch label in 2014. The Quietus said the following about Thomas Ankersmit’s work on the venerable Serge; “Ankersmit makes this ancient beast of an instrument breathe, giving it life and, finally, teeth.”

Thomas Ankersmit exploits a sound phe-nomenon known as otoacoustic emission, or in-ear tones. These “phantom sounds” are generated by the listeners’ inner ears in response to certain sonic stimuli. The disturbing perception of sounds originat-ing directly in one’s head has the tenden-cy to obliterate any notion of space. In Ankersmit’s performance, in-ear tones and sounds conventionally perceived as coming from the loudspeakers form two intricately linked but distinct musical streams.”

330 Live DOORS OPEN 20:00

Organisms nlOrganisms are a band from The Hague and Rotterdam who specialise in intelligent, raw and energetic rock, and are noted for their intense and often combustible live shows. Various band members have earned their spurs through playing in other Dutch underground rock bands like Spider Rico and Feverdream. They have worked with Alex Newport (At the Drive-In, Pissed Jeans, The Melvins, Death Cab For Cutie) and the late Corno Zwetsloot (Space Siren).

Tomaga ukUK duo Tomaga draw on a long pedigree of experimental music making; having played in bands like The Oscillation, Neon Neon, and Voice Of Seven Thunders. After their first, self-produced cassette, ‘2013’s Sleepy Jazz For Tired Cats’, Tomaga re-leased their first album, “Futura Grotesk” on the French label, Hands in the Dark. Tomaga’s minimalist compositions are darkly psychedelic and imaginative; soundtracks for surreal dreams.

Korzo IIIKORZO OPEN FROM 18:30

MGBG fr/isMGBG is a collaboration between French composer and sound artist Marie Guilleray and Icelandic composer / sound artist Bjarni Gunnarsson. The duo use fixed-media elec-tronic music, improvised performances, site specific residencies (GRM/Radio France, Studio Loos) field-recordings and sound walks to create their work. Currently the fo-cus is on composed and improvised music; exploring the combination between voice and live electronics.

Omer Eilam isrModern classical composer Omer Eilam describes himself as a “part musician part biologist residing in Tel-Aviv.” Playing the piano since he was 6, and earning his spurs through playing in various classical and jazz ensembles, Eilam’s work reflects both his classical training and his interest in bringing a scientific approach to music composition.

Fauna x Rewire

Fauna is a young initiative based in The Hague, creating one-night platforms pre-senting music, art and innovative projects. Founded to break through the boundaries of existing cultural islands, Fauna aims to outline a space where new creative forms find stage and audience.

For its first installment, Fauna in collabora-tion with Rewire Festival brings a wide array of Dutch and international musicians for a night dance-oriented sonic explorations. From the enervating afrobeat rhythms of the Stoka Ensemble to the eerie reverber-ant vocals of Fetter and acid-inspired clus-ters of KlankMan, eight live performances join in a unified quest to explore the fring-es of academic and club music.

In conjunction to the music program, Fauna also invites young interdiscipli-nary artists to transform the catacombs of HOOP into an exhibition space where the works collaborate with the musical performances in a joint concert, creating a unique atmosphere alien to the usual nightlife experience.

In biology Fauna is used to describe the diversity of animals in a place or time. With every edition a geographical biome is chosen as the starting point for the par-ticipating artists to reflect on.This edition’s centre of focus is the Tundra.http://faunalive.com

Ableton Live + Push: The VoiceWhich musician did not grow up with Able-ton Live? Without this revolutionary soft-ware, first released in 2001, live electronic music would look very different, or would maybe not exist at all. During the Saturday afternoon programme of Rewire you can discover Ableton Live for yourself, as well as Push, the new controller of Ableton. This year’s theme is the human voice. Two Able-ton Live workshops will take place, a begin-ners workshop and one for more advanced Ableton Live users.

Voice Manipulation in SuperColliderIn popular music these days it’s hard to find a voice recording that hasn’t been manipu-lated in some way. Auto-tune technologies can turn anyone into a bona fide singer. Yet there is so much more that can be done to change the sonic character of voices. Tijs Ham (STEIM) is a sound artist and live coder and will demonstrate how to write computer programs that alter the human voice. Moving from simple delays to radical granular effects, you will get a glimpse of the huge capabilities of sound manipula-tion in the audio programming language SuperCollider.

Vinyl market - Korzo

UnderbellyOnce again, Rewire hosts a shop with books, magazines, records, tapes, films and electronic music toys on both days. In the lounge of Korzo, Underbelly presents a spe-cial selection to match the programme.

Wichelroede Wichelroede is The Hague’s portal to a combination of new music, art and culture. During Rewire’s day programme on Sat-urday 2nd of May, Wichelroede is hosting a stand in Korzo’s foyer, offering a varied selection of electronic vinyl records, cas-settes and related products like magazines, t-shirts and stickers.

Concerts at KorzoAlbum Launch Dandana ‘Third Wold Nightclub’ - Dandana nlTerming themselves a “coalition” and drawing on socio-countercultural influ-ences (skateboarding culture being their main source of inspiration) the Hague’s Dandana create long, often improvised jams and instrumental passages that nod to funk, soul, African, 70’s psych & elec-tronic music. At Rewire will release their LP ‘ Third World Nightclub’.

FilosofischeStilte nlFilosofischeStilte is the name of Luuk Graham from The Hague. Starting off as a rapper, FilosofischeStilte’s sound quick-ly developed in a different direction via the use of a Commodore 64 and Ninten-do sounds. Graham is adept at creating a dense, rich sound that incorporates arpeggios, attractive synth samples, and heavy bass lines. FilosofischeStilte plays the support for the Dandana LP release.

Screening: Cosmic pulseCosmic pulse is a 23 minute cinematic portret of the creation of Third World Nightclub, the debut album of Dandana. The process of producing, arranging, recording and mixing took place in the Womb, an underground soundcave situ-ated in an abandoned school building in The Hague. The portrait shows the idea behind the music of Dandana and offers insight into the world of tape machines, rare synths, vintage instruments and analog effects used during the realization of this double 12” vinyl LP.

Mbongwana Star cd For the concert from Mbongwana Star a Saturday- or weekend ticket is required.Mbongwana Star, from Kinshasa – the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo – look to challenge the standard preconceptions around African music. Mbongwana Star (‘Mbongwana’ mean-ing ‘change’) fuse traditional Congolese rhythms with post-punk and electronica. Inspired by life in the townships around them, the band are adept at ‘making magic out of garbage’. So says producer and band member Doctor L (who also pro-duced Tony Allen’s ‘Black Voices’ album).

Concert atOud Katholieke Kerk

Chris Corsano & Mette Rasmussen us / dkA charismatic and incredibly resourceful performer, Chris Corsano is known for his affirmative and generous take on the art of drumming. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists such as Joe McPhee, Bill Nace and Björk. Danish saxophone player Mette Rasmussen works in the field of improvised music, experimenting with the saxophone’s range and capabil-ity in sound and expression. Their debut album was recently released by Relative Pitch in 2015.

Jenny Hval & Susanna noRewire presents a special live perfor-mance by two celebrated Nordic art-ists, Jenny Hval and Susanna; the latest chapter in an ongoing collaboration that began with an exchange of letters back in 2009. In 2014, Jenny Hval and Susanna released a startling LP, ‘Meshes Of Voice’; a release that draws from both

mythical bestiaries and Maya Deren’s surrealist film from 1943, ‘Meshes of the Afternoon’. The release moved The Quietus to exclaim; “Despite often being a subtle and uncanny work, ‘Meshes Of Voice’ also possesses this destructive quality, a feeling that these styles are rejecting one another”.

a collaboration with the London-based duo Rocketnumbernine (who performed at Rewire 2012), produced by Four Tet, and featuring a guest appearance by Robyn. This refreshingly leftfield album received many glowing reviews from many, includ-ing The Guardian and Resident Advisor.

Pearson Sound ukAs one third of the team behind the Hessle Audio label, David Kennedy’s Pearson Sound moniker has become synonymous with cutting edge UK dancefloor mu-sic. Kennedy has lectured at the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, released a crit-ically praised FABRICLIVE compilation, and remixed artists like Radiohead, The xx and M.I.A.. Kennedy’s also found the time to run the vinyl only club night, Acetate, in Leeds.

RP Boo usChicago’s RP Boo – a.k.a. Kavain Space is an artist that commands a great deal of respect. He’s cited as one of the origi-nators of Footwork, the fast, repetitive, rhythmically syncopated music & dance style that originated in Chicago. RP Boo’s Footwork style is unusual, featuring raps and dialogue adopted from Juke, often in combination with sharp-edged and inci-dental samples; giving some tracks a para-noid atmosphere.. His music is often hectic too, looking to psyche-out the listener or offer challenges to dancers; and it’s this playful quality, along with his trickster rhythms and sub, that give RP Boo’s tracks their unique feel.

Korzo I DOORS OPEN 12:00

Blue Daisy ukBeatmaker Kwesi Darko, aka Blue Daisy creates music that is futuristic and down-beat, sometimes resembling Burial’s dub-step or Flying Lotus’ glitch-hop. He was recently signed by the legendary R&S Records. His powerul live show consists of live beats, electronica and rap.

The Bug ukSummarizing the work of The Bug (aka: producer Kevin Martin) is almost impossi-ble. A member of King Midas Sound and the man behind Pathological Records, Martin can point to an illustriuous cat-alogue of remix work (e.g. Grace Jones and Einsturzende Neubauten) and work with artists such as Justin Broadrick, Pete “Sonic Boom” Kember, Kevin Shields and Anti Pop Consortium. The Bug’s first re-lease was 1997’s collaboration with DJ Vadim on ‘Tapping The Conversation’. Now on Ninja Tune, The Bug has recently released 2013’s ‘Filthy EP’, and 2014’s LP, ‘Angels and Devils’. The Bug plays Rewire with MC Manga.

Neneh Cherry & Rocketnumbernine se/ukNeneh Cherry, daughter of freejazz musi-cian Don Cherry, is famous for her mega hits ‘Buffalo Stance’ and ‘7 Seconds’ with Youssou N’Dour. But she also has a long history of working in the undergound. In 2012 she recorded a collaborative album named Cherry Thing with freejazz trio The Thing. Her latest solo album ‘Blank Project’, is her first solo album in 16 years;

Aïsha Devi chHouse/techno producer and Danse Noire boss Aïsha Devi Enz is a driven charac-ter. This “Swiss-born, half-Tibetan, to-tally-driven, self-producing avant-garde singer-songwriter” builds on her old “alter ego” Kate Wax’s long-standing fascination with manipulating vocal sounds. Now Devi redirects these spiky, sometimes confrontational explorations in an emotive but very poppy direction. Boomkat recently wrote of Devi’s ‘Aura 4 Everyone’; “Devi’s emotive vocals are at the centre of a spacious arrangement of crisp, dub-wise percussion, glassy arpeg-gios and luxuriant nocturnal ambience.”

HOEK nl19-year old, Amsterdam-based Casimir Geelhoed, a.k.a. HOEK, is releasing his first EP ‘Mary’ on Fog Mountain Records in April this year. Title track ‘Mary’ made a big enough impression to get HOEK to play at Rewire. HOEK’s raw and dark dancefloor music may remind you of pioneers such as Andy Stott and Vessel.

IVVVO poIVVVO, a.k.a. Portugal’s Ivo Pacheco has teamed up with Swiss label Danse Noire to release ‘Theories of Anxiety’ EP, a re-cord that adds to IVVVO’s previous sonic gymnastics on the Public Information, Opal Tapes, and Fourth Wave labels. Fact Magazine describes ‘Theories of Anxiety’ as “tape-warped techno that — despite divergent techniques and approaches — are united by an uneasiness that bubbles under the surface.”

Jac Berrocal + David Fenech + Vincent Epplay frThis French avant-garde super-group re-lease their LP, ‘Antigravity’ on the Blackest Ever Black label.

Jac BerrocalFamous for ‘Rock and Roll Station’ (record-ed with Vince Taylor), Parisian trumpeter Jac Berrocal has also played with artists such as Pascal Comelade, Jaki Liebezeit (Can), Nurse With Wound, Sunny Murray, Jacques Thollot, James Chance, Pierre Bastien, Aki Onda, and Lol Coxhill.

Vincent EpplayExperimental artist and musician Vincent Epplay has collaborated with Sebastien Roux on the film soundtrack for Nanook by Robert Flaherty, and the Centre Pompidou for Jean Painlevé’s movies. He performs regularly with Samon Takahashi. Epplay’s work has been published on la-bels such as Stembogen, and LDDR.

David FenechParisian David Fenech has played and recorded with musicians such as Felix Kubin, Jad Fair, Tom Cora, Rhys Chatham and Shugo Tokumaru. His baroque style has been described as ‘a kind of punk mu-sique concrète’. Fenech’s home studio – the Superdisque recording project – is an instrument in its own right.

Oren Ambarchi auOren Ambarchi is a composer and multi-in-strumentalist who has a longstanding in-terest in transcending conventional instru-mental approaches. His work focuses mainly round exploring the potential of the electric guitar. The Wire described the results as; “re-routing the instrument into a zone of alien abstraction where it’s no longer easily identifiable as itself. Instead, it’s a laboratory for extended sonic investigation.”

RSS B0YS plThe stories behind RSS B0YS are intrigu-ing. Anonymous travelling musicians, B0y 0ne and B0y Tw0 apparently met, and formed RSS B0YS in Benin. Regardless of the duo’s roots, they have been incredibly productive over the past three years; with

four enervating, eclectic, avant-garde LPs (released on Mik Musik) and two tapes to their name; the most recent being the double LP ‘HDDN’ a split with Mik and the BDTA label. Their music follows their motto: ‘Freedom of choice is kind of im-portant. From African deserts to European dancefloors’. Indeed.

Tomas Jämyr seBorn 1987 in Sweden, Tomas Järmyr is cur-rently based in Oslo, and teaches at the Jazz Conservatory in Oslo. With one foot in rock/metal and the other in jazz/improv, Järmyr’s drumming combines wild creativ-ity with extreme energy and presence. He has a plethora of projects that defy cate-gorizing; but operate within a vast range of genres from free jazz through death metal and progressive metal, to hardcore and electronica.

Yodok III no/se/neYodok III is a collaboration between three avant-garde and boundary-breaking mu-sicians; Norway’s Kristoffer Lo (amplified tuba), Sweden’s Tomas Järmyr (drums) and Belgium’s Dirk Serries (guitar). Tomas Järmyer and Kristoffer Lo are the back-bone of Yodok, and have previously re-leased avant-garde, experimental records that also incorporate elements of genres as diverse as jazz, (post)rock and classical. Serries joined the duo in 2014, and to-gether the trio released the eponymous debut LP on Tonefloat’s A New Wave Of Jazz imprint. The follow-up, the epic double LP, ‘The Sky Flashed, The Great Sea Yarns’ is a set of 4 improvised piec-es recorded over the course of 3 days in Brussels. ‘The Sky Flashed, The Great Sea Yarns’ was released in January 2015.

DJ Sniff jpDJ Sniff (aka Takuro Mizuta Lippit) is de-scribed as a “turntable musician working in the field of improvised and experimental music.” Takuro’s work looks to conjure up ideas of time and place; something that is reflected in the text on the back of his release, ‘EP’: “With every scratch, our mem-ory of a past is suspended and we hear and here the now.” To do this, he has created a unique setup of custom hardware and soft-ware along with one turntable and DJ mixer.

The Void Pointers nlThe Void Pointers are Roald van Dillewijn, Tijs Ham and Eric Magnée. Modifying in-struments for improvised acousmatic mu-sic is the band’s forte, and an incredibly diverse one; from modifying guitars and flutes, to setting up a six piece ensemble for string and electronics. During their performances, The Void Pointers focus on building timbral walls of sound, that can sound enervating and challenging. They performed at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek and the (h)ear festival amongst others.

Antenna nlDrawing inspiration in the early, free-spir-ited, “anything goes” days of house mu-sic, Antenna creates exciting, off-the-cuff mixes of jacking house and wave for labels like Pinkman. There is no pre-recorded ma-terial, no random visuals and no apple log-os to be seen during an Antenna live set. Rather, Antenna’s set is built up courtesy of an MPC2000 and a Juno; all fed through a saturated analog circuit.

Cliff Lothar seA veteran of the early Cybernetic Broadcasting System scene, Cliff Lothar’s reputation was forged by 2013’s ‘White Savage’ EP, released on Viewlexx. This re-lease and the follow up, ‘Skudge White 05’ were praised by the likes of John Talabot, Claude Young, Thom Yorke and Anthony “Shake” Shakir; who described Lothar’s music as “sinister, dark and funky”. A recent collaboration with Legowelt – under the name Pagan Sector – resulted in the rave-techno-deephouse hybrid EP, ‘Hermopolis Magna’, released on Amsterdam’s Knekelhuis.

Marsman nlMarsman is a gigging DJ and the own-er-come-spiritual-guide of Rotterdam’s Pinkman label. His seductive, sensual mu-sic shouldn’t be overlooked in all of this activity, however. Using wave as a starting point, his work encompasses crunched up house and mashed techno cuts to create smooth, patient work-outs that lean to-wards the spiritual.

DJ Stingray usSherard Ingram has been a force in Detroit’s electronic music scene for thirty years. He has worked alongside Moodymann, Carl Craig and Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir (making Urban Tribe’s 1998 LP, ‘Collapse of Modern Culture’) and as tour DJ for Drexciya (where he gained the moniker DJ Stingray, just be-fore James Stinson’s death in 2003). Known for creating expansive hip-hop/house LPs like ‘Drexciyan Connection , and 2013’s ‘F.T.N.W.O.’, Stingray’s Fact magazine mix is also seen as one of the best Detroit electro mixes ever made. According to Ingram, the mix was a “micro version” of his live set.

Unit Moebius Anonymus nlFirst there was Unit Moebius; the legend-ary industrial-acid techno act released on Bunker Records, beloved of Aphex Twin and and cornerstone of the notorious Acid Planet nights. Unit Moebius Anonymous is the latest chapter in the story; one dating from 2007 when the key player from the band, Jan Duivenvoorden, started produc-ing and playing live again. For any techno fan, seeing Unit Moebius Anonymous is an absolute must.

Cloudface caEmerging from Vancouver’s Mood Hut collective Cloudface (aka David Reynolds) has released two records to date; 2012’s EP ‘Wyre Drive’ (first as a cassette on Nice Up Intl, re-released on UK label Going Good) and debut long player ‘Devonian Garden’, on Mood Hut Records. Both are examples of ambient, contemplative techno that also boast lush passages of sound. Fact Magazine said that the LP boasted “gor-geous anaesthetised melodies” that had something of Cluster about them.

Garoeda nlBorn and raised in The Hague, Sameer. aka Garoeda, is part of a new genera-tion of talented producers from that city. Still in his early twenties, Garoeda

is quickly developing his grainy, ambi-ent-meets-house sound; inspired by in-novators such as Huerco S. In 2014, he released two mixes through Wichelroede (in total over 120 minutes of original ma-terial). Garoeda will make his first ever club-debut during Rewire, playing a dj-set in the Wichelroede showcase.

Gerben Louw nlGerben Louw runs Wichelroede.net to-gether with Fallon, a website that pub-lishes a vast array of new electronic mu-sic, and sells music and related cultural items through the Wichelroede Shop. With a versatile taste in music, Gerben is always searching for new sounds to in-corporate in his surprising and varied dj-sets. Gerben is also closely associated and involved with Creme Organization, home for artists such as Legowelt, and Orgue Electronique.

The Cult of Dom Keller ukPsych is something of an overused, “catch-all” term, but it is one that fits The Cult Of Dom Keller perfectly. Boasting an accessi-ble and poppy sound that draws compari-son with Spacemen 3 and the Jesus & Mary Chain, the band also draw on the experi-ence of true psych luminaries such as Julian Cope’s guitarist, Doggen.

Gnod ukGnod are a free/cosmic rock and proto-an-archist collective from Salford, Greater Manchester, UK. Formed in 2006, and sub-ject to an ever-rotating (sometimes rejoin-ing) cast of like-minded musical experi-mentalists, the band has steadily built up a reputation for dramatic live shows and uncompromising musical statements. Gnod works closely with the artists at the infa-mous Islington Mill Art Academy in Salford, where the band also curated ‘Tangent’, one of sound artist Callum Higgins’ immersive and disorienting happenings.

Siinai fiFinland’s Siinai are an underground su-pergroup of sorts, boasting members from Joensuu 1685, Zebra and Snake & Äänijännite. Siiani’s sound is an exciting mix of ambient, prog and Krautrock. Their re-cent album ‘Supermarket’, looks to create (in the band’s own words) ‘a soundtrack for the supermarket nations.’
