The Hallie Hill Howler
While we can’t change an animals past, our mission is to
rewrite their future. July, 2019
Dear Friends, As the heat of summer is upon us, we are as busy as ever at the Sanctuary! In-takes, adoptions, and the regular care of our 200+ cats and dogs keep both staff and volunteers hopping! As always, this month’s Howler is packed with the regu-lar great features such as: new arrivals, recent adoptions, a volunteer spotlight, and great informational articles. As you read through, you will also see great photos of the British invasion of HHAS and special people from Veterinary Specialty Care working hard for Hallie Hill when they returned for another successful volunteer day! Be sure to make a note of the upcoming 2
nd Annual Laps for Love Fundraiser. Au-
gust is right around the corner!! We are planning a terrific day at the Stono Ferry Pool and Pavilion with music and refreshments as we all cheer on our 6 partici-pants who will swim their hearts out for a total of 200 laps or 2 hours - whichever comes first! You will be able to sponsor a specific swimmer per lap, or just give a general donation to support the event. All contributions will be designated for our MAGIC (Medical and Geriatric Intensive Care) Fund! This fund pays for every-thing from spay/neuter surgeries and monthly medications, to more expensive sur-geries for orthopedic problems or mass removals. Follow us on Facebook or Insta-gram to stay informed! Stay cool! Jennifer Middleton Executive Director, Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary

Daddy’s Girl!
It is hard to describe how much Michele Bayme means to the Hallie Hill family! Michele cares about every animal on the property and is their tire-less advocate! She spends countless hours providing enrichment for the dogs
and is always available to expertly represent Hallie Hill at community events. Michele organizes many fundraising projects, is a mentor to new volunteers, and, if that is not enough, she also sits on the Hallie Hill Board of Directors! Her beloved Willy was once a resident of Hallie Hill, before becoming a brother to Abby and Remy Bayme! Hallie Hill is a better place for
Michele’s dedication, time and love. We are forever grateful and apprecia-tive. We love you Michele! Thank-you!

Veterinary Specialty Care Spends a Saturday Morning at Hallie Hill!
On Saturday, June 15th a team of vet techs from Veterinary Specialty Care in
Mt. Pleasant gave up their Saturday morning to support our dogs and cats at Hal-
lie Hill! They used their amazing skills to wash dogs, trim nails, socialize dogs and
cats, and help with special maintenance projects! We appreciated their help, very
much, and our pups and kits hope to see you again!

Leroy Leroy is an 11 year old Shih Tzu / Brittany Spaniel mix who is just an all-around amazing dog. He is affectionate, loves scratches, and enjoys car rides. This handsome boy will steal your heart! A perfect medium size, he is waiting to complete your family! Please fill out an application to adopt Leroy at Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary’s website: www.halliehill.com – he can’t wait to meet you!
Oadie This big, handsome 5-year-old is sweet as he can be! Oadie is deaf and is also very afraid of thunderstorms. He would love a couch to curl up on to feel safe during those scary summer storms! Oadie does have a habit of climbing on furniture - so his adopters will have to have some extra patience in teaching him what is appropriate. This gorgeous boy will love you to pieces! Please complete an application to adopt Oadie at Hal-lie Hill Animal Sanctuary’s website at www.halliehill.com – he can’t wait to meet you and show you how special he is.
Socks Socks is 9 years old and is an adorable, petite little lady! She will rub up against you and let out a sweet purr as the prances about with her cute little white socks. We are not sure why she has been overlooked, but now is the time for her to have her fur-ever home! Please go to Hallie Hill An-imal Sanctuary’s website, www.halliehill.com to complete an application today! Socks says ILY and TIA!
Polly At 11 years young, Polly is a great dog! She can be a little timid but is very gentle. She knows basic commands and loves to go swimming! She walks wonderfully on leash, and is read for those wonderful after dinner strolls through your neighborhood. Please fill out an application to adopt Polly on Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary’s website, hal-liehill.com, and get ready to fall in love!

Dogs on the Beach: A Pet Owner’s Guide By Rob Way, Lowcountry Weekend We all love to bring our four-legged friends to the beach, but take note that some ar-ea beaches are already kicking in their stricter summer hours. Here’s your guide for which areas allow dogs on the beach and when they have to be on a leash. Lowcountry beaches have rules on when you’re allowed to have your dogs on the beach. (Source: Pixabay) FOLLY BEACH •May 1 to Sept. 30: Dogs are not allowed on beach between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. •All other times: Dogs must always be on a leash. SULLIVAN’S ISLAND •May 1 to Sept. 30: Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. They can be off-leash from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. but must be on-leash from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. •Oct 1 to April 30: Dogs must be on-leash from noon to 5 a.m. •All dogs must have a valid permit. ISLE OF PALMS •April 1 to Sept. 14: Dogs must be on a leash from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. •Sept. 15 to March 31: Dogs must be on a leash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. •Isle of Palms residents must have a valid permit for their dogs. KIAWAH ISLAND •March 16 to Oct. 31: Dogs must be on a leash at all times in the dog-designated area. •Nov. 1 to March 15: Dogs are allowed off-leash between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. •Dogs are prohibited in critical habitat areas at all times. SEABROOK ISLAND •NOTE: Dogs must be on leash above the high water line at all times. •May 1 to October 30: Dogs must be on a leash between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. •Nov. 1 to April 30: Dogs may be off-leash in dog-designated area, otherwise same summer hours apply. •East of the designated off-leash area, dogs are not allowed at any time. EDISTO BEACH •May 1 to October 31: Dogs must be on a leash on the beach. •November 1 to April 30: Dogs are allowed off leash on the beach. HILTON HEAD •Friday before Memorial Day to Labor Day: Animals are not allowed on the beach between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. •April 1 to Friday before Memorial Day: Dogs must be on a leash between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. •Labor Day to Sept. 30: Dogs must be on a leash between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. MYRTLE BEACH •May 1 to Labor Day: Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. . The day after Labor Day to April 30: Dogs are allowed on the beach at any time. They must be on a leash that’s seven feet or shorter. When you do take your dog along to enjoy a day on the beach, watch for dangers many dog owners might not think about, including allowing them to drink too much salt water or eating dead fish that may have washed ashore. Be careful about letting them swim in the ocean as well: even a strong dog could get washed away by the currents. Consider buying a life jacket for your dog to keep them safe if they want to swim in the ocean or keeping them on leash whenever they’re in the water so you can pull them back in easier if they get out too far.

We had a great time celebrating the blueberry harvest with our neighbors at Newton Blueberry
Farm! Siesta, Wink, Dozey, Buster, Sophie, Jennifer, Barbara, Christie and Lynn were proud to
represent Hallie Hill and spend time with friends, old and new! The kittens were a crowd favorite
while hanging out in their kitty condo and Buster was happy to see everyone! Sophie even took
Barbara on a wagon ride to the blueberry fields! Even though we got a little damp, nothing could
dampen our spirits! Thanks Newton Blueberry Farm! Hope to see you next year!
