For the application of hot foil on uncoated or textured papers (e.g. wine labels, ...), at embossing is advantageous. Difcult surfaces require a longer dwell time than that which is achieved with rotating embossing. Moreover, when high quality foil-embossing combination is required RHINO™ at-bed demonstrates register perfection and high reliefs on label and packaging carton stock.

Consistently designed for in-lineA at bed in-line hot foil embossing unit requires a series of functions and high performance in order to be able to used successfully in-line.The rotating foil head enables innovative, multiple colour designs to be produced directly in-line in one cycle. With qTool® (pat. pend), Pantec RHINO™ offers the fastest tool changing. The Pantec RHINO™ tool cassette immovably holds male moulds and stencils while remaining universally adjustable. Not even rotary printing machines get around the use of a at hot foil embosser when difcult surfaces have to be embossed with hot foil. The integration concept of Pantec RHINO™ is proven in in-line application in rotary machinery. A separate web tension station uncouples Pantec RHINO™ from the printing press. The robust mechanics of Pantec RHINO™ enables web speeds of up to 120 m/min. The integration of the at embossing unit into the

printing machine is now possible with suitable foil and substrate without losses in productivity and a multitude of advantages are accessible!

Economic advantagesWith Pantec RHINO™ the off-line renement can be dispensed with. The in-line relief embossing allows buying cheap stock and embossing customized structures. Investments are dispensed with, the embossing tools are more affordable and the preparation and optimisation of the off-line machine for pre-printed material no longer apply. Expensive, pre-printed material no longer accumulates as maculation during setting up. The cycle times of orders can also be signicantly reduced.

Technology benefitThe Pantec RHINO™ has all the necessary functionality to achieve perfect embossing results: Flat bed hot foil embossing for rough papers and high relief depths; adjustable, precise with two very robust eccentric shafts which ensure uniform embossing pressure under extreme conditions time independent of the production speed as well as a robust design with a 2-eccentric shaft for the hub, which ensure uniform embossing pressure under extreme conditions.

PROCESS TECHNOLOGY

Flat Bed Embossing: perfect for difcult materials

The Pantec RHINO™ uses the at bed process, which is advantageous for embossing difcult materials. With the longer dwell time in comparison to rotating processes, foils and high-quality reliefs can even be applied to rough materials. The advantages are especially visible with wine labels, where rough and textured paper is frequently used. Through subtle strength and high precision, Pantec RHINO™ achieves high relief depths on both sensitive label materials and strong cartons.

Registered Hologram stamping

RHINO™ stamps holograms with very high precision and high speed. Luxury brand patches require very high presicion. The Pantec servo based foil tensioning system not only ensures precision, but also easy setup and repeatability. The versatility of RHINO™ is key for security that seeks hard to copy complexity. However, it serves also for luxury branding and protection.

Rotating foil head & Multistroke

The rotating foil head of Pantec RHINO™ enables the foil to be applied both lengthwise and crosswise in relation to the web direction (90 degree rotation of the head). Pantec RHINO™ can be exibly set up for the widest range of design requirements. Combined with Multistroke, extremely interesting design possibilities arise. For optimized foil saving, the RHINO™ foil head provides up to two different foil stepping pattern.

Application of various foils lengthwiseIf the foil head is crosswise, multiple foil colors can be embossed successively. Traditionally, multiple modules are needed to stamp multiple foils and to perform blind embossing.

Creative design possibilities through MultistrokeWith Multistroke the web can be embossed in several small steps. In doing so, the embossing can be applied one on top of the next, which enables the production of unique designs in a single printing process.

In-line operation reduces manufacturing cost due to single pass from the blank roll to the nished product. In-line reduces logistics and lead time. One person can operate the entire line. Space requirements reduce the oor cost.

However, in-line requires a high performance hot-foil embossing system to achieve the required line speed. RHINO™ performs up to 25’000 strokes/hour. The demand for multi-foil and multi-stroke designs grows constantly. Therefore, the very high stroke frequency offers best speed with complex designs. With RHINO™ your line runs at normal speeds, even with luxury designs.

Foil saving functionThe foil is used optimally with the intelligent foil feed. The control unit also utilises the spaces within the design. Depending on the design, foil consumption can be drastically reduced. For multicolor designs RHINO™ can perform two different foil steps.

Cost-effective at embossing shapesFlat embossing tools are more cost effective than rotating tools. As a manufacturer of both systems, we can advise you competently and neutrally.

Increased tool usage timeThe "zDeviation" tool guide of the Pantec RHINO™ tool cassette system ensures the stable, slip-free positioning of male moulds and stencils throughout the entire production. The service life of the tools is signicantly increased.

Fast changeover through specialised tool cassette system

Job changes within a few minutes are an in-line must. Through a minimisation of changeover time for the embossing system as well as the reduction of the effective set-up time of the machine, Pantec RHINO™ effortlessly meets this requirement.

The tool cassette system with "qTool" (pat. pend.) from Pantec RHINO™ enables unconventionally simple and fast changeover. With the temperature compensated prepositioning of the male moulds, initial orders can be set up with very little effort.

For repeat orders the relative position of all tool parts remains, so the set-up time is largely omitted. Expensive camera systems or tedious adjustment processes are unnecessary with the qTool tool positioning.

High efficiency and differentiation for mid volume luxury packaging

In the label industry the answer to the growing demand

for differentiation, decoration, smaller orders and qui -

cker delivery is in-line web processing with powerful foil

stamping systems. The at bed hot foil system RHINO™

changed the market since it was introduced in 2010. With

its multicolor foil embossing, registration of holographic

foil patches, all at a performance of up to 25´000 strokes

per hour, narrow web converting lines become power -

ful single pass manufacturing centers for complex and

attractive label designs.

In wide web packaging many printers have changed to sin-

gle pass in-line web operation for high volumes. With the

high performance of RHINO™ integrated in a narrow web

printing line the benets of web processing also become

available for medium and low volume packaging jobs.

Multi-process, highly decorated packaging like cosmetic,

food (chocolate…) , books or pharma “over the counter

products (OTC), can be produce very quick on narrow web

in-lines including perfect foil-embossing. It’s the same as

for high end labels for wine or spirits.

Low to mid volume markets in luxury packaging like cosmetic, pharma or food can perfectly be served with narrow web in-line

production. Same as for high end labels for wine or spirits.

For labels and packaging with complex foil designs narrow web in-line converting with RHINO™ has great advantages compared to

sheet: Single pass process for quick delivery and low waste.
