The Narket street (~1T8st) facade, three bays 't\Tide) j.s the major elevation, and the Lalivson,D.lle Avenue (south) facade of the same '];,Tidth functions as a secondary focus Th3 one-story shed projecting from the north bay of the rear and the one-story kitchen li.Jing projecting from the south bay of the rear are apparently original to the house , although each has been extended at a later date 0
The house is S8t on a lmv brick foundation, covered Hi th plain Siding, and capped m th a gable roof covered wi th standing seam tin 'rhree interior brick chimneys T"ri th molded caps proje ct from the roof . Flat-paneled corner posts 'trith,Doric caps accentuate the facade corners The molded, brack8ted eaves of the main roof form a wide eave return at the gable ends. The main entrance" located in the center bay of the 11arket Street facade, is a double door:, li,Tith round-arched etched glass panels. It is protected by a porch across the tHO north bays of the facade" It has clustered tapered posts joined by arches, supporting a bracket cornice beneath '::1. hip roofo A scnvm'TOrk railing in a sprig0.tly floral design enclose s the porch. Reid from 188l until his death in 1891., is Reid I s on~y remaining residence ~ Reid, an important nine teenth century North CaT'olina political leader, 1j,jas the first Democrat elected governor of the state and is chiefly r("'3membered for liberalizing suffrage by sponsoring the elimination of the property qualifica ti on for sana tori,,?-l suffrage:
