2010 - 2014Alvar Aalto often repeated to my professor: In Architecture 1 + 1 = 1. Years passed and it came the time when he would write the same to us- everyday - before starting the lecture. That is something I always keep in mind when I start a project. Architects dont design; they make compositions. Why? Because architecture must be treated as a whole. It is with this ideal, along with serenity, silence and wonder, what brings joy in our practice.
Its been four years since the beginning of this journey, full of successes and failures which have allowed me to aim towards bigger goals; always proactive to any opportunity that could contribute to my personal and professional growth. Was this project better than the last? I always ask myself the same question. Even though I cannot answer it, I am convinced all of my projects have been made with love and enthusiasm.
It is a great satisfaction for me to make a synthesis of the work Ive completed during this period. A period in which I discovered that architecture is not a game of art, where divine inspiration gives birth to grand buildings. Totally the opposite, this journey came out to be the most demanding, yet gratifying, period of my life.
However, now I can affirm that architecture is a process of careful thinking, concise and ordered reflection; a joint path between the rational of our being and the emotions that move us. But the most important thing: making architecture is to freeze a moment a special moment in which we would like to live forever.

A young architect was walking with his master while observing a newly
finished garden. On the horizon, a freestanding wall appeared next to a
tree. Why is this wall in here? the young architect asked to his master.
After a long pause, finally he replied: So many times we have walked this
path and you have never noticed this tree needed someone to remember him
how beautiful his shadow is?... (Luis Barragan)

SUN CHAPEL
Location: EnsenadaBaja California,Area: 70 m2
Once inside, the chapel elements can be observed immediately: a platform
confined by six pillars, all receiving an inclined circular slab fram-
ing the landscape. The chosen materials were concrete and stone to allow
the chapel to build a symbiotic relationship with its environment as the
time goes by.
This environment becomes the main catalyst for the design of a mono-
lithic and open chapel that expands the horizon in a dimension of peace
and serenity. The arrival to this site is preceded by a narrow hallway
confined by two walls of stone that create tension ready to be released
with an axial view of the sea and the holy cross.

ROMA PAVILLION A famous delegation in Mexico City, Colonia Roma is known for its large amount of buildings with patrimonial value, of which the expressive
strength resides in its cornices, lattices, smithies, tiling, etc. This
project, designed as a pavilion for the rest and meditation classes,
dialogs with its surroundings through the use of handcrafted materials.
The proposal suggests diverse pavilions around a patio, characteristic of the build-
ings of the zone. The beams, the wooden floor, the lattice made out of red bricks and
glass blocks are just a few of the elements that decompose the light, creating an
atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation. The structure is solved with I steel
beams and angles in the corners for rapid assembly. 2
Base: IPR beams: 6.10 o 3.05 m.
Floor: Beams and wood platform.
Structure: steel frames.
Walls: ceramic lattices.

PERGOLA: ENES LEON This pavilion is located in the National School Of Higher Studies in Leon, Guanajuato.
Its Principal function is to give students a
place to rest on their free time.
The structure consists in twelve steel 4 PTR frames. The twelve
frames are formed by similar pieces that when inverted form a
parabolic shape. These reach up to 4.5 metes high. The cover is
a waterproof fabric and the floor is swept textured concrete.

CUBE It all started with a simple cube. Just like Adolf Loos would have done it, we learned to carve the matter, by substraction in perfect shaped blocks divided in
64 modules. This was a first aproach to understand positive and negative space,
just like a sculptor understands the relation between full and empty. 4
CENOTAPH The coast landscape is modified with the insertion of a cenotaph that guards the ashes of a loved one. This architectural object raises itself with great height as a carved
monolithic piece, with a stair that starts from the outside and unfolds into the inte-
rior, culminating in an observatory that invites for meditation and contemplation. Ho-
rizon and architecture: the only protagonists of the game.

The complex is a U form, encircling the patio with platforms at different levels. Trees born
in the lower levels are revealed at the perimeter of superior levels. The buildings compo-
sition harmonizes with its neighbors constructions by continuing the commerce stripe from
the first floor.
Designed for a corner lot, this six-floor habitation unites in a cen-
tral patio a series of double and single height flats. The concrete
structure becomes the main expressive element in the faade, its
composition distinguishing the duplex from the singles.

The solution consisted of curved glass panels, suspended by steel arcs that follow the roofs vaulted shape. These
panels reduce the reverb time produced by the churchs geometry and attenuate the middle and high frequencies. The
spectators isoptic was solved with the help of a grandstand with a central path walk. In addition to this, the stage
can adopt different configurations and heights thanks to its modular solution.
This project, winner of a silver medal in the Mexican Ar-
chitecture Bienale in 2013, was born after the petition of
transform the interior of a XVIth century church into an
auditorium for piano concerts. The first need was to correct
the acoustical conditions of the site.

MUSEO DEL MAR
The terrain as an extension of the sea/river.
Thanks to the use of local materials, this museum shows the possibility of building in a more sustainable way,
responding to the natural conditions of the site. The complex extends itself beyond the main road, framing the
horizon in a poetic gesture. The museum is concerned on exposing a different perspective of the water and local
vegetation. The spatial tension transforms with every turn, manifesting a variation of scale in each room.
This museum is located in Tecolutla, in a pier in front of
the river. The concept we created is made of a series of
bodies that float, making the ecosystem, including the flora
and the fauna, to become the main object of display.
The museum looks for a mymesis with the landscape trhoughout its materials.
The jetty becomes the main
artery for arriving to a
big plaza that works as a
public space for the people of

The screens and walls are built with materials that can be found easily in
the region and that allows quick assembly. The double skin in the walls
controls the interior shading but with crossed ventilation. The density of
the lattice is higher in the interior for better control of the exhibited
content.

An architectural intervention of this site involves a responsible
treatment of scale, materials and a close relation with its history. This
water canal in the south of Mexico is famous for the regional boats called
Trajineras. A hotel for this site, however, is not a conventional, as it
proposes rooms that are conceived as modern floating boats.
This new type of hotel room can be tied to a platform near the complex that includes the lobby, the cafeteria
and the services. The composition of these floating bodies is made up by a series of Y shaped wood frames.
The back part is completely blind to offer the user privacy and the front part offers great views of the canal.
This boat works without the use of fuel and its motor can be moved with the help of solar panels on the roof. Location: XochimilcoArea: 25 m2

MASTER PLAN
The old buildings that can be found in this area have patrimonial values. Therefore, any type of intervention must be
respectful by using materials that harmonize with the identity of the site. One of the main buildings to treat is an
old complex of houses that used to serve as emergency housing after the 1985 earthquake. The faade is catalogued,
but in the interior, the transformations have damaged its memory. The proposal for this project is to preserve the
faade and transform the use with a commercial corridor, restaurants and a new housing project in the northern part.

Thanks to its introverted character and historic value, Romita neighbor-
hood in Mexico City is one that demands to be restored. This intervention
has the objective of improving the neighborhoods urban image by incorporat-
ing new buildings that make this zone a touristic, cultural and commercial
attraction.

E) SECTION: INTERVENTION IN THE PREEXISTENCE.C) ISOMETRIC: COMPLEX.
B) VIEW FROM THE MAIN COURTYARD.
The first action was to reorganize the space by generating a central patio to serve as a space for social ac-
tivities and allow people to free themselves from the acoustical and visual contamination of the city. The
patio is surrounded by restaurants and small shops disposed in a main corridor that crosses from Morelia
street into the heart of the neighborhood. The constructive system is brick cladding and steel frames.
For the treatment of the pre-existent faade, an articulated union is used to avoid damages in case of a dif-
ferential sinking from the ground. The aerial lightning enhances the faade appearance and gives a floating
appearance to the new concrete slabs. The five habitation buildings are located in the backside of the complex
and can be accessed with a security control point from the street or the commercial patio.

Once the user is inside, they find a triple height atrium that has a view to the park on the opposite corner of the street. The
spectacle center is located in the basement to avoid noise. The building is lightened, thanks to its transparency and the rhythm in the
windows that contrast with the buildings horizontality. The structure is composed of a steel border ring with a
secondary beam system inserted into the central core. A second border ring solved with a CE steel piece gives vi-
sual weight to the composition. The windows are made of steel perils that can be demounted to give maintenance to
the faade.

POLIVELENT FORUM Immersed in the intersection of three streets in Colonia Roma, this building composed of a black box and a spectacle center adopts the
lots geometry and lifts itself creating a shaded plaza that becomes a
meeting point for the people. The black box becomes the main expressive
element in the faade, like an incrusted body in a crystal volume. The
plaza in the first floor gives access to the building.
DESARROLLO CONCEPTUAL
Virtually extend the plaza to the streets with a pave-ment design to give prior-ity to the pedestrians.
4Preserve natural ele-ments, create an under-ground level to embody the program that asks for acoustical control.
3Raise the volume generating a public space in the street level.
2Use the geometry of the lot as the generator of the buildings shape.

CETRAM OBSERVATORIO The region encompassing Observatory in Mexico City presents many con-nectivity problems due to its disordered urban trace and the topograph-
ical conditions. The presence of informal commerce has also damaged
the urban image and has affected the pedestrian transit (the pedestrian
crosses are insecure and the only bridge left that connects the Subway
Line 1 with the Bus Station is not working).
After the construction of the new Subway Line 12 and the suburban train line that will connect Toluca with the city,
there is a big possibility of unifying all types of transport modes in a single building that can respond to the
peoples needs throughout dotation of services and commerce. The proposal includes a new body that serves as a bridge
between the pre-existent Bus Station, the old subway line 1 and the new subway line 12. Also, the architectural
program contemplates a hotel that covers the needs of those who come from nearby states.
2) Reactivete the urban center
in the east by making a public
plaza that conects it to the
station.
1) Concentrate all transport
means in a single body that
gives the users the necessary
conditions to walk in a secure
environment.
3) Lower the vehicle street and
generate a series of platforms
that give priority to pedestrian
walk. With this, a new access to
the market is created.
a) Complicated traffic routes and slow
transit.
b) Informal commerce can be found and
the pedestrian bridge is abandoned.
c) There will be excess in the number of
bus after the the suburban trains built. LONGITUDINAL SECTION OF THE NEW BODY (TRANSIT AREA AND HOTEL)
4. Transform the west wing in a
comercial corridor with banks,
restaurants, and shops that face
the renewed plaza with bigger
car bays.

The old Bus Station can now be modified by the decrease of demand from the new Suburban Train station in the northern
part of the complex. The north wing of this building is transformed into a commercial corridor that can be accessed
from a big plaza. The south wing is kept as an ambulatory with the presence of smaller local and food shops. A new
structure to unite all transportation means is added next to the Bus Station. The access to the east plaza is made up
of a series of platforms that connect with an old Market that has a lot of potential to be renovated. This new body
not only allows every single transportation method to be reached under the same roof, it also contains the vertical
circulations to access the Hotel and the new Subway Line 12.
In the first floor, we can find the entrance to the Subway Line
1, the microbus stop and the newly constructed Suburban Train
Station. Additionally, this body extends itself to the face of
the hills and ascends, creating a stairway for the inhabitants
of the zone.

The geometry of this new body makes a reference to the old Bus station shape but
adopts a more contemporary language. The structure, formed by a series of steel
frames, becomes the leading element of the composition in search of a big and
continuous space. The commerce shops in the first floor appear like cantilevered
boxes that add a dynamic feel to the buildings appearance.

The building counts with redundancy a term to describe a building that has two electric alimentation sources for safety
reasons. Its energy is generated by solar panels located in a 45-meter wide ellipsoid shaped roof that also gives shape to
the cooling systems. Once built, this will be the first data center whose thermic control wont be regulated by a conven-
tional air conditioning chilling system, but an adiabatic system that humidifies the atmospheres air and injects it to the
interior of the White Area. Additionally, a cellular concrete wall along with a green-wall system protects the White Area
from the heat gain.
This data center (level Tier IV), for Universidad Autnoma de Nuevo Len
will be located in the Investigation and Technological Innovation Park in
Monterrey. This project counts with one of the most advanced implementa-
tions for this genre of buildings. Oriented for improving its energetic
consumption, the building is composed by two main bodies: the operative
area and the White Area (containing the storage racks) along with the
machinery room, a system for treating water and an electrical substation.
