Rice Importers and Exporters: An Answer to a Starving Country

Simone Weil once said, “It is an eternal

obligation toward the human being not

to let him suffer from hunger when one

has a chance of coming to his assistance.”

Indeed, what he said makes sense. More

than half of the population of the world,

especially Asia, consumes rice in their

meals everyday of their lives.

And most often than not, some of the

countries can’t produce enough of their

own rice for their people. It is one of the

most serious problems a leader has to

face and find solution as soon as

possible. It is very dangerous to run a

country with a starving population.
















People would grow impatient and

restless to the thought of inadequate

supply of rice. It also doesn’t help that

because of this, the available rice would

be cost twice if not thrice its original

price. There would be panic and chaos. It

would be a huge disaster.
















And if a leader can’t solve problems about

hunger, he is in fact a failure.

What would probably the reason why a

country can’t produce enough rice to feed its

people? There are a lot of reasons, actually. It

could be because of work attitudes of the

farmer, or the lack of funds from the

government, or the climate itself.
















But has it ever occurred to us that it

could be because of geography? Yes. In

planting, a rice location is a necessary

consideration. Not all country has river

deltas that supply water that is much

needed in growing rice. Urbanization can

also be a reason.
















There’s no enough land to grow rice since

mountains are now transformed into a

highly industrialized village. Without

these lands to plant to, where else can

we get the source of rice that we need to

support our families? To address this

problem, rice importers are bringing in

rice from other countries.

Through this, we can get adequate supply

of rice to feed everyone. As Mr. Weil had

said, it would not be an embarrassment

to seek assistance to the neighboring

countries as long as it is to save its own

people from suffering from hunger.
















It would be an obligation to seek help as

long as there is a chance, no matter how

big or small, to keep us from the claws of

starvation. Indeed, exporters are a great

help in this kind of situation. There will

be no importers if there are no exporters,

and vice versa.
















Both of them play a big role in eradicating

starvation in countries that use rice as their

major source of carbohydrates.

It is truly a wonder how starvation can

cause a myriad of problems. Aside from

malnutrition, illness, unhappiness,

weakness, and a lot more, increase of

crime incidents could be the worst among

all.
















It is overwhelming how rice suppliers

from other countries could solve to that

very problem. Importers could be our

savior, literally. Any help from them

would be absolutely welcome so long as

it would fill the hollowness of our

stomachs. It would be a welcome

salvation.
