PASTOR’S CORNER Summer time in the RSP CC – This week is perhaps the first week that things are rather unscheduled. Save for a few meetings, there will not be the rush of activity that has been happening in the past few weeks—for which I give thanks to God! These past few weeks have been good in these sense that after the fourth of July holiday, Father Cletus and I have been diving in head first with different groups and committees, getting to know the three parishes. I have been meeting with the various ministries and staff members over the past few months to better understand how things work and what COULD be areas of collaboration for our Rich Spring Prairie Catholic Community. In the coming weeks and months I will be sharing with you the fruits of these conversations. I have truly been edified by what is going on in each parish and with a strong sense of what needs to continue to make each parish strong and vital, while at the same time where would be good to bring things together. One of the first areas of collaboration that each Parish Council has identified is Youth Ministry. I fully support this initiative to bring the Youth Ministry programs together since many of our young people attend school in the ROCORI District. Sandee Kremers is working hard to develop a plan that will incorporate each parish and be open to all youth, no matter where they go to school or what parish they belong to. Please read the Youth Ministry column in the Community Pages of this bulletin. Your input and feedback – I have asked the Parish Councils to meet more regularly during this initial period of transition. I encourage you to speak with members of your Parish Council with your impressions of how the RSP CC is going—especially the good things! These first weeks certainly have been filled with many moments of grace, but there are also some areas of growth as well. Please be charitable with any comments or questions you may have. Please know that I do not read unsigned letters just as I cannot respond to messages with no return numbers. I simply do not have the energy to answer things of which people are not willing to take ownership. PASTOR’S CORNER

Summer time in the RSP CC – This week is perhaps the first week that things are rather unscheduled.

Fifteenth Sunday of the Year – Our readings this weekend invite us to consider how much time and energy we place into our relationship with God. The fields of our lives require as much preparation and maintenance as the fields of our local farms. Do we want to have an abundant harvest or are we willing to accept whatever decides to grow? Do we even care if anything grows at all? I invite you this week to examine your calendar for the coming week, and see what time you have dedicated for this important task of maintaining your relationship with the Creator of all.

Mea Culpa – Last weekend in the bulletin I said that Saint Benedict’s Monastery did not have any professions this year—how wrong I was! Sister Tamra Thomas, OSB, made her perpetual profession on July 11 and Sister Bridgette Powers, OSB, made her first profession. Please continue your prayers for the Sister and Monks of the local Benedictine communities.

Job Opening Lead Custodian – Church of Saint Boniface. Contact Sister Sharon (ext. 701) or Sandee Kremers, ext. 602 if interested.

Administrative Assistant Parish Office – Please send or drop off a resume and application at the Saint Boniface Parish Office. Attention to Merrilee Stang or Sandee Kremers.

One area of concern which has been raised in the Parish Council meetings in each parish is how you support your parish when attending Mass at a different parish.

First, if you have signed up for ACH (monthly automatic withdrawal program) with your parish, you have no need to be concerned whether or not your offering is being received. Your Parish Office works with their bank to make the monthly transfer. This is the easiest and best way to make sure your parish continues to receive your offering to God of your first fruits.

Second, please use your parish envelopes. You can place your parish envelope in the basket wherever you attend Mass, and your envelope will be delivered to your parish on Monday morning to be counted and recorded. This has already been happening in the member parishes of the Rich Spring Prairie Catholic Community, as well as with other surrounding parishes. The Administrative Assistants and bookkeepers are already in the habit of sending on your envelopes.

Third, you can use a check in the basket. Please make the check out to the parish for which you would like your contribution to be given. If you attend Mass at Saints Peter and Paul, and make your offering by check made out to Saint James, we will send the check to Jacobs Prairie along with the envelopes.

Fourth, any cash offerings remain in the parish where they are given.

Thank you for your support of your parish. The member parishes of the Rich Spring Prairie Catholic Community strive to be the best stewards of the gifts that you offer to the God who has blessed us all so generously.

Five Lessons in Summer Camp Spirituality – Walking past a group of day campers on my way to work, I was inspired to consider some thoughts that I’ve deemed Summer Camp Spirituality.

Rule one of most summer camps is to get outside and enjoy nature. Nature is full of spiritual lessons.

Arts and crafts invite even the non-artistically inclined to create something to save long after the camp session ends. Art can invite us into a deeper experience of imagination and prayer.

A camp T-shirt serves to show an identity as a part of the group. Organized religion brings people of faith together, even while individuals hold different opinions.

In team games, campers can be leaders, followers, cheerleaders, or sideline-sitters. We can play any of the same roles in a spiritual sense.

Swimming and other individual athletic activities can awaken a camper’s drive for excellence. Spirituality aims for excellence of the human spirit.

Summer camp is all about trying new things. What new spiritual practice might you try to enhance your life of faith? - Denise Gorss

The text is based on a quote from Saint Augustine: “Let us live our lives so that all might see that our hearts are restless ‘till they rest in Thee.” The second line, “Let us build your kingdom in truth and grace so that all might know they have a rightful place” was inspired by the scene of Pope Francis washing the feet of teenage prisoners on his First Holy Thursday. May we take these words to heart, so that all will see Christ revealed in our words and actions!

“Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: Lo sembrado entre los espinos representa a aquel que oye la palabra, pero las preocupaciones de la vida y la seducción de las riquezas la sofocan y queda sin fruto. En cambio, lo sembrado en tierra buena, representa a quienes oyen la palabra, la entienden y dan fruto: unos, el ciento por uno; otros, el sesenta; y otros, el treinta.” (Mateo 13, 22-23)
