ChairmansMessage:ThenewseasonbeganSeptember8thwithseveralmemberstakinggueststoanallGuildmembershipeventattheMesaVerdeCountryClubinCostaMesa.MembersoftheGuildBoardgaveahistoryoftheCenter,theGuildchapters,thesponsoredmusicalprogramsinschoolsaswellaseducationandcommunityprograms.Oftheguestsourmembersbrought,Civedecidedtojoinourchapter.September14thwasthe‘NewMember’luncheonatCafeMozart,SanJuanCapistrano.Thenewmembersthatjoinedare:GloriaRavera,LisaOlsen,RoseSmuckler,AnitaArnoldandBarbaraCipriani.MarjorieGorum,oftheGuildBoard,spokeofprogrampossibilitiesformemberinvolvement.Scholarshipwinners,LeilaSalemandSeanLoeullospokeofthegreattimetheyhadwithotheryoungmusicianswhileontheirEuropeantour.Theyplayedanenjoyableandimpressiveprogramofclarinet,saxandsoloandduetpieces.TheOctober5thluncheonwillbeatMarieCalendars,SanJuanCapistrano.LynnChichi,aprofessionalinteriordecoratorANDwittycomedian,willpresentaninspiringliveshowontheartofentertainingwithstyle,Clairandhumor.

Our dear friend Betty Jean Bowers passed away on August 21, 2016. Her deep affection for Richard Rodgers members was the core of her tireless work for us.

Officially, BJ was our longtime Membership Chairman, who personally invited so many new members and made them feel welcome. She organized the annual Bunco & Burgers luncheon, and entertained us with the many prizes she gathered and decorated so no one would go home empty-handed. (A ‘Bunco pro’, she played in at least three Bunco groups and a Canasta group.) For our annual Dinner Dance, BJ created the lovely table centerpieces and was a major force in bringing together our beautiful raffle baskets. And if the tabes were bare at our monthly lunches, BJ created lovely flower arrangements. She was a very generous and anonymous donor of time and money to our chapter as well as a frequent chauffeur for ladies bound for shows at the Center. BJ’s energy, vitality, and sense of humor were infectious. She was a fun-loving hostess who delighted in the company of her family and friends. She shared with us her love of flowers and all beautiful things, as well as her fine sense of manners and etiquette. We will miss all that Betty Jean Bowers did for Richard Rodgers, but, most of all, we will miss the warmth and friendship that she extended to all of us. May she rest in peace and in our hearts.
