    SUMMARY

The Richardson Lake Project Area is located in the Atikoken- Riehardson Lake greenstone Belt of the Canadian Prccambrian Shield, Gargoyle Lake 3 s located in the centre of the projecta rea .

    Previous goId and

exploration has resulted in the discovery base metal occurrences throughout the region.

    of several

Alcanex Ltd., A private president, acquired an option area in 1990.

    company of on 49 claims

which the writer is in the Richardson Lake

The current prospecting venture was initiated in the summer of 1991, in an attempt to locate target areas capable of hosting gold and base metal deposits, both within and surrounding theexisting claim group.

The area is underlain by an eastwest trending sequence of mafic and fel sic voJcanics and interbedded sediments. Encouraging base metal values of up to 4.3% Zn. and .2% Cu. were obtained from a chert-argil 1ite horizon asociated with an A.E.M, anomaly in the north central portion of the area. Geocheroically anomalous copper values were obtained from elsewhere on the property.

An extensive overburden cover prevented the surface explanation of many priority A.E.M anomalies in the area. Humus geochemical sampling was applied to one such anomaly and, although not conclusive, produced encouraging values in gold and zinc.

Ground geophysics and diamond .drilling will be required to evaluate the base metal potential of select A.E.M. anomalies present in the overburden covered portions of the area.

    INTRODUCTION

In January 1.990, the government" data was reviewed (i.e. assessment files, government geology, A.L.M. data). Based on the re suits of this con pi ] at ion , and the writers personal knowledge of the- area, specific target areas were seleeted for field ex ami na t ion .

In August 1991, the writer traversed key areas, napped the geology and attempted to locate and sample priority A.E.M. anomalies.

Twenty-four rock samples and 16 humus samples were submitted to X-Ray Assay Laboratories for analyses. All samples were analysed for gold and base metals.

    LOCATION AND ACCESS

The Richardson Lake project area is located 90 miles northwest of Thunder Bay. The Trans-Canada Highway and Canadian Pacific Rail Line cross the eastern extention of the belt and pass within eight miles of the area of current interest. Recent logging operations have brought road access to Gargoyle Lake located in the centre of the area.

    GEOLOGY

The Richardson Lake Greenstone Belt is part of the Archean Wabigoon Greenstone Belt of the Superior Province. Massive to foliated trondhjernite and granodiorite border the volcanics and sediments of the belt.

Mafic to intermediate volcanics constitute a large portion of the area. In the Gargoyle Lake and Upper Scotch Lake areas narrow felsic horizons are considered to represent felsic tuff horizons and or felsite dikes. The mafic volcanics of the region typically contain horizons of metasediments. A serpentinite body at the east end of Gargoyle Lake is aligned in an east-west direction conformable with stratigraphy. Formational E.M. and Mag anomalies in the area indicate the presence of sulphide facies iron formation.

The terrain is gently rolling with a few hills up to 250 feet high. Bedrock is extensively covered and the stronger ( 1 ect ronagnet. i c conductors of the area are frequently obscurred.

    SUMMARY OF WORK COMPLETED 1991

In 1991, reconnaissance geological napping and sampling was carried out over the Gargoyle Lake area in order to assess the economic potential. An attempt was roade to locate outcrop proxir.icil to or along strike from priority A.E.M. anomalies.

As was previously indicated by Shell many of the conductors are overburden covered and will be best evaluated by diamond drilling. Overburden cover is thin throughout the area and basal till sampling might prove an effective means of screening priority A.E.M anomalies in advance of diamond drilling.

Prospecting along strike from known A.E.M. anomalies produced very encouraging results for the area north of Gargoyle Lake. Sheared graphitic argillite and chert was located in an old trench located along strike to the west of a strong A.E.M anomaly and parallel to a second isolated conductor of interest. Chip sampling across the old trench returned anomalous values in copper (0.15%/1.5ft.), and zinc (4.3%/0.5ft.). Zinc mineralization occurrs within a 0.5 foot thick conformable, dark grey quartz vein within the argillite unit. Two priority A.E.M anomalies in this area are not exposed and their cause remains unknown.

Humus sampling over a separate anomaly immediately north of Gargoyle Lake returned geochertical ly anomalous gold values of 9 ppb gold where the background is < 2.4 ppb.. Geochemically anomalous values in Zn (240 ppm) and Ba (600ppm) were obtained where the mean values for these elements were Zn (28ppm) and BaU33ppm). While the significance of this one line humus survey is of questionable merit, the observed range in values is e o n s i d e r e d e n e o u r a
