his favorite line from Monty Python: I am not dead yet! Don’s greatest wish is to spend his remaining time with as many friends, family and colleagues as possible, and a celebration party for him will be held on Sunday, November 24, from 3-7 pm at The Lodge at Columbia Point. The party will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and Oreo-scotch shooters, a no-host bar and lots of music, dancing, frivolity, photo ops and sharing of happy yellow envelopes. Club members wishing to attend should RSVP to: [email protected].

Mike Sinclair thanked Club members who participated in the October ramp building project.

50/50For the 50/50 drawing, Jeremy Asmus held the winning ticket for the $197 pot but he was unable to pull the elusive prize-winning white chip from the bucket. Rick Schulte held the consolation prize ticket for which he received $10. Needless to say, next week’s 50/50 pot could be record setting!

Court is in SessionHis Honor Jim Bauer stepped forward as the substitute Judge for today’s meeting. Judge Jim immediately sought out and fined Club members without their pins or badges, as well as any late arrivals; e.g., Ken Williams! His Honor then asked Club members to announce what they are thankful for in exchange for making a contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Those who addressed the Court included Ian Napier, Sam Volpentest, C. Mark Smith, Bob Tibbatts, Ken Williams, Linda Bauer, Bob Quay, Julie Funfar, Steve Arneson and others.

His Honor concluded the judicial session with a question posed to all regarding the significance of November, which Julie Funfar answered correctly by responding November is Rotary Foundation Month.

Rotary Foundation MonthNext, Jim and Linda Bauer spoke for a few minutes about why they give to the Foundation and the financial planning decisions they made to provide legacy support to Rotary. One option they suggested for Club members facing mandatory IRA distributions to consider is making a direct, non-taxable contribution to the Foundation.

ProgramLinda then introduced District Governor Bob Quay as today’s speaker, providing summary of his background and accomplishments, which included military service in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. In addition, Bob is a former member of the Kennewick City Council, a former mayor of Kennewick and has been married for 48 years.

Bob graciously took the podium and spoke about the history of our Richland Rotary Club, how “Rotary Connects the World” and the great impact Richland Rotary has had on local lives in our community. Bob discussed some of Rotary’s immediate goals, to include:

1. Growing Rotary - two zones were lost to Asia last year; the membership is aging; need to grow the number of clubs as well as a younger membership.

2. Emphasis on Family - Rotary cannot come before family. 3. Offering a viable path to Rotary leadership for professional working members.

Hal’s HumorA Stanford research group advertised for participants in a study of obsessive-compulsive disorder. They were looking for therapy clients who had been diagnosed with this disorder. The response was gratifying, they got 3,000 responses about three days after the ad came out.

All from the same person.
