Friday 8th July, 2016 Summer Term 2016 - Issue 11

Dear Parents and Carers I am delighted that we have received such positive news from the Diocese in the report of their recent review. Here are some quotes taken directly from the report ‘There has been a significant change in leadership in the school. An Executive Head Teacher has been appointed and there have been changes in the Governing Body. Internal appointments to senior and middle leadership have ensured that Christian distinctiveness has been maintained whilst more rigorous methods of monitoring and evaluation of pupil progress have been introduced. This has led to an acceleration in pupil progress, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. Governors are a regular presence in the school and actively support the new leadership in improving the life chances of all pupils by raising expectations of teaching and learning.’ Many of you will have been following the reports from HMI (Ofsted) closely. Since I joined the school at Easter all the staff, governors and I have been totally focussed on ensuring that this is an outstanding school. We have made a large number of improvements and changes this term and I hope you have seen the impact of these on your children’s education

We have promoted two of our middle leaders to become SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and Pupil Premium lead. Mr Wells and Mr McCulloch will focus on children who have additional challenges. This has already meant that we are more effectively targeting support for pupils.

Appointment of new Deputy Head Teacher (Miss Hodges) and Assistant Head Teacher (Mrs Millar) to strengthen Senior Leader-ship and this means we are able to move the school forward.

Introduction of Pupil voice in the form of a Junior Leadership team, to give the pupils a say in the direction the school is taking

End of Key stage results show improved levels (for the second year)

External support to assess teaching and make sure systems and practices are in place to ensure all teaching is good or outstand-ing

A new and exciting Curriculum map designed and implemented for the next academic year

New tracking software to accurately monitor each child's progress and analyse next steps

Strong link with partner schools with the opportunity for all to work across a number of schools, using and adopting good practices.

Attendance, we now have whole school systems put in place in order to improve attendance, meaning children are in school and accessing their essential learning.

Governors have a change of role and are in school to work and support teachers with specific Subject areas.

The provision of Wrap Around Care, before and after school, to facilitate the needs of working parents and carers.

In September we have already planned for other changes which will ensure that we are confident the school is performing at a level that is good or better. We are all passionate about this! We are looking forward to HMI revisiting in the Autumn term so we can demonstrate the significant improvements that are now in place.

Yours sincerely

On Thursday 7th July I had the delight of attending the official opening of ‘The Georgian Theatre Experience’ accompanied

by Summer Stuart and Ryan Curtis, Y5. It was opened by the Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Sir Gary Verity.

Set to become one of the region’s key heritage tourist attractions, the ‘Experience’ offers a fascinating insight into the

history of Britain’s most complete Georgian playhouse and, more generally, what life was like in a leading 18th century

provincial town. The project has been supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a generous legacy from

Paul Iles, a former associate director of the Theatre, totalling over £500,000. It includes a redeveloped exhibition area

behind the stage, and the creation of a new education and learning centre adjacent to the Theatre on Friars Wynd.

As well as taking a guided tour of the Theatre itself – looking inside dressing rooms, discovering hidden trap doors and

treading the boards of its historic stage – visitors will be able to spend time in the new exhibition centre. This includes

Interactive displays, digital presentations and a range of exhibits relating to the Theatre and the important part it played in

Richmond’s illustrious Georgian past.

A key exhibit is the Woodland Scene, acknowledged to be Britain’s oldest surviving scenery set, painted between 1818 and

1836. Thanks to a second grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for £71,000, it has now been restored and exhibited to

museum grade standards. The new interpretation, enhanced through bespoke lighting and display casing, enables visitors

to view and understand this scenery like never before.

Maxine Price, Executive Headteacher

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome

to Yorkshire, said: “I am delighted to be

opening The Georgian Theatre Experience,

which promises to be a fantastic addition to

Richmond and Yorkshire tourism as a whole.

“The Georgian Theatre Royal is a beautiful

building, and as Britain’s most complete

Georgian playhouse, it has a rich and

fascinating history, which visitors will now

be able to discover for themselves.”

Year 3,4,5 and 6 have gone skipping crazy! This

school is going crazy with skipping because at lunch

there were nearly 10 people skipping next to the

tree. 36 of the skipping ropes have been sold across

the school !! All the blue and pink skipping ropes

have sold and now there’s only four skipping ropes

left! 4!!!!!

As reported by Cameron Torrible, Y4

SKIPPING FRENZY!!!!

There’s a climbing wall where you climb hit a button at the top and it makes a noise. We also have two bouncy castles.

One of them you need to climb up a slope them slide down and push in-between pairs of inflatable poles, then climb back

up and then slide down under a inflatable log. The other one is a castle. It has two doorways and a few obstacles to pass.

There’s also a stair case leading to the top. This is the treat we earned from our soccer shoot out money.

Report by Jacob Guckel, Y4

FUN DAY!!!

The children were treated to a Wimbledon themed lunch

on Wednesday complete with a wonderful strawberry

cream tea. As you can imagine this proved to be a great

success!
