SPORTS DAY
Dear families,
Welcome back to what promises to be a very busy term with
swimming, camp and Sports Day occurring in the first few weeks.
Please be vigilant of school and class communication as there will be
a number of events you may wish to be involved in. Please refer to
dates on our school calendar. This year’s end of year concert, to be
held during the evening at Cowandilla Primary School hall, Thursday
Dec 6th, Week 8, is a date you may wish to save well in advance.
At the end of last term our school celebrated Ada Lovelace Day,
instigated by one of our teachers, Diana Harris, who has a special
interest in this area. One of our STEM rooms is named Problem
Solvers and is dedicated to Ada
Lovelace. Ada Lovelace (19th Cen-
tury, England) foresaw and contrib-
uted to the modern tech revolution.
She is often considered to be the
world's first computer programmer.
Each teacher contributed by offering
a science, technology, engineering
and/or maths activity. These activi-
ties were digging for fossils, spinning
helicopters, kites, cup poppers, mar-
ble mazes, binary bracelets, coding
with beebots, maths card games, catapult challenge, sound waves,
marshmallow structures, magnet trails, walking bugs, construction
challenge, ozbots, fidget spinners, 3D shapes, sphero obstacle chal-
lenge, photography, maths madness, colour spinners, paper plane
challenge, slimy fun science experiments and mega structures. It was
a wonderful way to join together and once again highlight the im-
portance of this learning area and its relevance to future careers.
Additional photos may be found in this newsletter.
It is a school expectation to wear hats in Term 1 and Term 4 and
we hope your child/children have been able to locate theirs recently
and that his/her hat is named/labelled. We also remind you to be
considerate of our Surrey Road residents, during peak times such as
drop off and pick up, and in particular to keep clear of their drive-
ways. We are looking forward to another positive and productive
term once again.
Regards,
Ella and Tracey
2019 Considerations At this time of the year we begin to prepare for 2019 class for-
mations and structures. It can be a real “numbers game” and
the more accurate in terms of student enrolments we are the
better; for both students and staff.
Are you moving? If you are moving and/or changing schools
please advise us as earlier as possible via

Richmond Primary School Choir News
At the end of last term our choir students performed on stage at the Adelaide Festival Thea-
tre as part of the Public Primary Schools’ Festival of Music.
The Primary Schools Festival of Music, an official state icon, is a public school-based music
education program which is a collaboration between the Department for Education and the
SAPPS Music Society, which gives all SA public primary students the opportunity to perform
at a prestigious venue.
The commissioned work was entitled “Next Stop: North Terrace” which was a series of
songs composed by local musician Mark Simeon Ferguson about the North Terrace cultural
precinct. The concert ended with a spectacular sea of colour.
It was a spectacular event that our students enjoyed being a part of. Thank you to Ms Poppy
and Diane Howes (choir teacher) for their leadership and coordination of choir sessions, ac-
tivities and events this year. Ms Poppy
Below is our notice for Materials & Services for 2019. Please note this is not an invoice.
You are invited to the next Governing Council meeting on November 7th, 2018 at 6.00p.m. if you have
any questions regarding next year’s school fees.
Free kitchen caddy and a roll of compostable liner bags
Richmond Primary School is working with the City of West Torrens to encourage our
school community to recycle food scraps into compost rather than sending this valuable
organic material to landfill, where it is simply a waste.
The City of West Torrens provides a free kitchen caddy and a roll of compostable liner
bags to West Torrens residents. Additional bags are available free of charge from the City
of West Torrens Civic Centre and the Hamra Centre Library.
If you are interested in recycling food scraps us-
ing a free kitchen caddy and roll of bags please
complete the online form on the City of West
Torrens website by Friday 26 October 2018.
A caddy and roll of bags will be sent home with
your eldest child when all expressions of interest
have been processed.
