Innovation indicators
Training and methodological activities Regional standard for the production of innovation indicators:
Bogotá Manual
Innovation surveys in the region’s countries: Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil (Sao Paulo), Uruguay, Mexico,
Indicators Input and output innovation indicators
Technology Balance of Payments
International Trade of High Technology goods and services
RICYT-CYTED
Why did we need a regional manual?
Share common criteria and procedures for “constructing” indicators.
Common methodology for the measurement and analysis of innovative processes.
International and regional comparisons.
RICYT-CYTED
Characteristics of LA firms regarding innovation
Informal organizational settings for conducting innovation,
Fewer R&D projects undertaken, Innovation mainly based in the acquisition of
technology embodied in capital equipment, The importance of organizational change in
innovation processes, Fewer resources devoted to innovation activities,
and Fragmented flows of information within national
systems of innovation.
RICYT-CYTED
Indicators that RICYT is working on and will publish in the short term
Indicators of public perception of science First survey in Argentina, Brazil, Spain and
Uruguay. Indicators of social impact of S&T
Development of methodology for the region and pilot survey in selected countries.
Indicators of international mobility of HRST Pilot indicators developed from population
census in L.A. and from USA data on resident scientists (2003).

General achievements
Inclusion of Latin American S&T indicators in world statistics
Raise profile of LA S&T Support for (policy) research on S&T
Colombian Observatory of S&T Participation as a region in S&T statistics
international meetings Successful story of regional ‘integration’
(horizontal cooperation) What is lacking: use of S&T indicators and
