Events & News

Carlin Dunne dominated the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting the

new course record for motorcycles today from pole position for the second year in

a row on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 S. This win marks Ducati’s third-straight victory

at the historic "Race to the Clouds". Both Dunne and Spider Grips Ducati

teammate and six-time winner Greg Tracy finished the race under the 10-minute

barrier, which is a first for any motorcycle in the race’s 90-year history.

Dunne crossed the finish line at the 14,110-foot summit of Pikes Peak with

the record-setting time of 9:52.819, beating his previous

record of 11:11.32, while Tracy was less than six

seconds behind, placing second with 9:58.262.

In 2011, Hoggin’ the Bridge raised£17,500 which was distributed amongstthe chosen charities, why not join theevent in 2012.

The ride will take place on Sunday 21stOctober 2012 and will start at 11.00 a.m.from Severn View services, Aust, junction 1M48 on the English side of the Old SevernBridge near Bristol. The parade ride willpass over the Severn Bridge following aroute through several local towns andvillages then culminate in the town ofChepstow.

It's all change in the law

for learners wanting to

get onto a motorcycle. In

January 2013 the

motorcycle licence is set for

a full shake up due to the EC

3rd Driving Licence Directive. There is no way out

and the wheels are in motion and unstoppable - the

way you get a licence, the restrictions and the costs

are all set for this new legislation.

Younger riders will find they have to take three sets

of tests and wait 4 years until they get a chance to

ride an unrestricted motorcycle. Riders aged 24 or

older will find that the costs of training and test will

rise as the EU requires us to purchase many more

types of motorcycles and much more powerful

ones for the new 2013 version of Direct Access.

The biggest news is the addition of Dynamic

Damping Control to the suspension of the HP4.

Previewed last year, DDC monitors road

conditions and actively adjusts the damping rate

of the upside-down fork and rear shock. The

HP4 also sees updates to the Race ABS

system with a new IDM settings for maximum

deceleration in “Slick” mode, the ability to fine

tune the Dynamic Traction Control on the fly in

“Slick” mode and the addition of launch control

with wheelie detection.

The new BMW HP4 sees its world premiere

in 2012 and is a continuation of BMW

Motorrad’s HP model series founded in
