The North End of Boston Massachusetts represents a coming together of the historic waterfront neighborhood and the growing Fi-nancial District. The Fulton and Cross Street intersection is a unique corner surrounded by the Rose Kennedy Greenway, traditional Boston brownstone homes, and the Boston Graphic Arts and Printing building. The site communicates with its neighboring build-ing, the North End Community Nursing Home, while reaching across the greenway to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall. The pro-posed hospital form exhibits both a sense of respect to the adjacent nursing home while embracing opportunities to become a focal point for the North End. The medical plinth grounds the building into its surroundings providing a spacious plan for public entry as well as medical program. The axis shift occurs just short of the Fulton and Cross street corner creating a new point of refer-ence. This pivot joint organizes the wrap-ping of circulation, program, as well as materials throughout the hospital. The open-ness of the pivot offers natural light, views, as well as a directionality within the building. The glow of the atrium pulls visitors through the lobby and up to the cafeteria while the rotational motion around the core continues through the eight floors of the tower.

Lake Side ResidenceLake Martin, Alabama

Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ward Willits House, the pro-posal developed off of a conceptual core which the livable spaces would be positioned around. The core is a vertical ele-ment of a stair connecting the three floors. With the client in mind, a young sculptor, the levels were broken into sleeping, living, and working, top to bottom respectively. In addition to the vertical core, the living and working floors communicate through a glazed ceiling adjacent to the stair allowing for ob-servation of the working process without direct distraction to the artist. The house was intended for visitors, with the glazed opening, the bottom level can remain private to the artist and the ceiling can then serve as a way for visitors to view the art and potentially even the artist at work.

The proposal is designed to take advantage of the site as well as keep the featured metiorite cra-ter in mind. The building is bro-ken into three masses by wooden dividers in order to represent a displacement of forms during the disaster as well as a coming to-gether of three different program-atic groups. Glazing is used to draw the visitors through the ex-hibit sequence as well as capture views and maximize natural light. The ramp gradually circulates visitors between levels while they view the ledge and anticipate the exhibit. Exterior patio spaces as well as a cafe allow visitors to move around the site and experi-ence the surroundings.

Study of Roman Jewish Ghetto: Via PapalisUniversity of Arkansas Rome Center

The proposal, an additon of a colonnade to frame the site of the demolished Cinque Scole. The Cinque Scole was the home of the five synagogues of the Jewish ghetto. The colonnade, inspired by Bramante’s Cloister at the Church of Santa Maria della Pace, would serve as a divider of vehicular and pedestrian traffic within the Piazza delle Conque Scole. This division would allow the piaz-za to regain its presense as a part of the ghetto, especially since it holds the last remaing piece of the historic wall which contained the Jewish neighborhood for years.
