when?

Common Name • The common name is the North Atlantic right whale but they

have three type of species of large baleen whales

Southern right whale

Latin Name for the Right whale• The latin name for the Right whale or as known as North

Atlantic Right whale is Eubalaena glacialis

Life History of the Right Whale• North Atlantic right whale gather into “surface-active groups”

made up of as many as 20 males consorting a single female.

• The female has her belly to the surface while the male stroke her with their flippers or keep her underwater

Physical characteristics

• Size: 18 m (59 ft) long • Weight: 100 short tons (91 t; 89 long tons)• Color: dark gray or black skin • Speed type: 5kn (9.3 km/h) at top speed • Description1. Distinctive callosities(roughened patches) of

Reproduction

• Age: North Atlantic right whales is estimated at between 7.5 and 9 years

• Gestation: 1 year

• Litter size: 1 year

Food & Water preference

• Food: zooplankton such as copepod and squid krill

• Water: they drink freshwater

Habitat

• The task is proven to be difficult its because of the low number of whales, the enormous size of their range, and the tremendous distances they swim during the year

• The areas include the Georgia and Florida coasts, Stellwagon Bank and Cape Cod Bay, the Great South Channel east of Cape Cod, the Bay of Fundy, and the Scotian Shelf

Ecology & Behavior

• Behavior: The Right whales exhibit that expose large parts of their bodies to the air, such as breaching and tail snapping.

• Right whales are also known to emit low frequency sounds that may be a form of communcation

copepods

Predators, Parasites, & Diseases• Predators: The three known predators are

humans, orcas, and sharks

Diseases: The diseases that impacted in the body of the right whale as known as the North Atlantic right whale is shellfish poisoning toxins (red tide) and domoic acid

Status ( Delaware & Federal)• Delaware: The status of the state of Delaware you’ll have to be

at least within of 500 yards of the right whale

• Federal: The federal is a violation is a federal law carrying fines of up to $55,000 if you violated the poor and beautiful endangered animal.

Conservation Management Needs• The North Atlantic right whale has been listed as an

endangered under the Endangered species Act since 1973.

• They have the right to protect the whales by enacting stricter regulations for shipping lanes and boat speeds despite petitions and a lawsuit from the Defenders.

Impacts to ecosystem if eliminated

Conclusion

• The reason why I pick the right whale for my Endangered/ Threatened Species Presentation is because I think that looking up information about the right whale is interesting to learn about in the group of marine animals. So if I want to learn more about the right whale I can looked up on the internet or getting a book from the library to learn about right whale or the different types of marine species in the United States.
