Rihanna – Wait Your TurnThis video for “Rihanna – Wait Your Turn” is a conceptual video because it does not have a clear narrative and there is not much performance in the video besides her singing the lyrics which is usually a typical convention for most music videos. The video is filmed in greyscale which already conveys a dark mood and theme to the music video. She is the only person that appears in this video and she does not have any dancers or actors in the video. Some parts of the video is set within a church, some parts on top of a building and other parts in a location which is not very clear to the audience so this portrays a sense of mystery because you cannot quite tell where she is. There is very minimal mise en scene within this video and the only things that indicate her where abouts is when she is in the church there is a throne like chair she is sitting on which looks quite religious and church like. You can also tell she is in the church because she walks down the alter and the windows are big like church windows however although she is in a church the image she is portraying is still dark. Churches usually connote to the audience religiousness and holiness but in this video the church is dark and she is wearing all black which makes it seem quite sinister, there is nothing in the lyrics which relate to why she is in a church so she could be trying to portray to her audience a deeper meaning.

Rihanna – Wait Your TurnHer costume in this video sees her more covered up than usual and only shows her stomach in two scenes of the video but in the rest she is covered not necessarily head to toe but her neck is covered at one point when she is wearing a polo neck dress and the scene in the church she is fully clothed and you cannot see much to her not even emotion as she is wearing sunglasses as well. Her make-up is very dark and the lighting is very minimal as well so a lot of shadows are created, in my opinion I think the whole concept of the video is mystery because you rarely get to see her eyes in the video. At one point you can only see into one of her eyes because she has an eye patch this could be her showing that she has two sides to her personality because in another shot you can see that there is only light shining on one side of her face which creates a double sided personality effect.

Rihanna – Wait Your TurnA lot of the camera angles are close-ups, medium close-ups and low angle shots, she wants the audience to focus on her face and her facial expressions yet she wants to depict herself as a powerful person because low angle shots conventionally show superiority. There is also a lot of super imposition being used where you can see loads of different images overlapping each other this relates to the sense of her trying to show herself in different lights and her trying to show different images of herself.
