BIOLA
A few classes I have taken this
semester are Intercultural
Communication for Teachers,
Materials Evaluation and
Preparation, and Sufism (mystical
Islam, there were only 2 people in
that class!) I have also taken 3
semesters of Arabic. Lots of work but
definitely enjoyable!
SUMMER INTERNSHIP
For seven weeks I will working in
Dearborn with believers at
Springwells Fellowship Church who
focus on intentional outreach through
building relationships as well as
teaching English to a Lebanese family
of nine. I have been working toward a
TESOL accreditation (Teaching
English to Speakers of OtherLanguages) and this will be a
wonderful chance to experience and
hone the skills I have been learning in
a classroom setting. I am sure to be
exposed to all kinds of ideas, life
styles, and approaches to sharing the
love of Jesus, but I pray that this
experience will open my eyes to the
Arab world on a deeper level. It is
hard to love people without knowing
them first, and this opportunity to live
in the midst of a misunderstood
people group will give me the chance
to see and experience life with them,
especially with a Christ-centered
mentality.
SUPPORT
I would greatly appreciate your
prayers to our Father for the ability to
connect with the beautiful Arab
people there through teaching and
house visits (especially 2 or 3 close
Arab friends that I can share the love
of Jesus with), better understand their
culture and language, and that I
would have the strength and energy to
serve in where needed. This is an
exciting next step I am taking toward
discerning where and how I mightshare the love of Jesus with Muslims,
whetherthat's through teaching
English and building relationships
with Muslims here in the states, or in
the Middle East some day. Thank you
so much for all your love and prayers!
Goals
-Cultivate a deeperunderstanding and abilityto lovingly engage Arabpeople
-Learn differentapproaches to ministry toMuslims by observing
believers there
(evangelism, discipleship, contextualizing the gospel)-Become more proficientin the Arabic language
-Make at least two closeMuslim friends that I caninvest in, pray for, andminister to-Discern whether teachingEnglish as a secondlanguage would be a
viable option for a futurevocation
Marhaba! This is my Arabic class with professor Victor Khalil. Some Arabic Valentines I made. :)
