Research Internships for Undergraduates

Researchers who wish to engage in a meaningfulcooperation with a young German research assistantwill be brought together with students in the earlystages of their studies who have an excellent back-ground in the fields of engineering, natural sciences, and related disciplines, including earth sciences. These students have the ambition to work abroadand gain hands-on research experience in their fields.

Researchers from universities and governmentallyfunded labs can submit a project offer to whichGerman students may then apply. DAAD willpublish your project offer and promote the pro-gram to German students.

You will be involved in the selection of the candidatesfor your project. DAAD will match the best candidatesto the projects. A successful applicant will receive aDAAD scholarship to carry out a research stay in yourworking group during the summer (from June toOctober for a max. of 3 months). Exact dates can bearranged individually.

(RISE worldwide is an extension of DAAD's success-ful RISE in North America program – researchersfrom any country are invited to post a project offer!)

How does RISE worldwide work?

Researchers from accredited universities andnon-profit research institutions register onlineand submit project offers, including a one-pageproject description in the fall (October –November). DAAD posts the internship offers in adatabase on its website.

German applicants register online to review theproject offers. They apply from Decemberthrough mid-January to a maximum of three proj-ects.

The German applicants’ profiles are checked foreligibility by DAAD staff and are then activated tobe reviewed online by the researchers.

The prospective hosts are asked to provide DAADwith a list ranking the most qualified applicants.

On the basis of these ranking lists, the academiccredentials of the students, and the demand for a project, DAAD makes its final decisions, notifies successful hosts, and awards scholar-ships in March.
