To keep kids on track with important matters such as literacy and physical activity, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library offers Summer Break, its annual summer learning program that encourages children to read, learn and explore. Summer Break runs June 7 August 14, 2021 and pre-registration begins Monday, May 17, 2021 ______________________________________________________________________________ RISING 8 TH GRADE SUMMER READING AND MATH ASSIGNMENTS This summer, we want you to read- read whatever you want! Enjoy a book for the story or for information. When you finish, pick a book and complete a Movie Poster advertising your book. Use your creativity but please follow the directions below for size, required components, due date, and grading. We have had enough digital so get creative and make a poster! Project Description: For this project you will be required to create a movie poster based on the book you have read. Imagine your book will be made into a movie and you are in charge of creating the advertising! You will be graded on your creativity, attention to detail, as well as the information that you provide. The poster will be displayed at school for our curriculum night. It should look like a movie poster that you see in the theatres—informative, eye-catching and interesting to the viewer. (see examples below) Your poster must be on poster paper or poster board, no larger than 22”X28.” Use different kinds of art materials to create your poster. Be creative and colorful! The title of your novel must be in large writing and stand out on the poster. Your name should be on the poster and listed as the “Producer.” The author’s name should appear as the “Director.” There should be illustrations or a collage that draws the eye’s attention. These should convey the setting or significant scene in the novel/movie. Be sure to list the major characters in your novel as the “stars” and they should be named. RISING 8TH GRADE SUMMER READING AND MATH ASSIGNMENTS

This summer, we want you to read- read whatever you want! Enjoy a book for the story or

A tag line should be included that catches the audience attention and describes the plot or

theme of the story.

Examples: 101 Dalmatians: So many dogs, so little time. Star Wars: A long time ago, in a galaxy

far, far away…

Rating of the novel by stars or thumbs up/down and why you recommend, or do not recommend

the movie. Example: Recommended for the movie fan seeking a suspenseful and exciting

adventure! OR Not recommended for the movie fan that hopes to be entertained and thrilled.

On the back of the poster: Your first and last name, your grade and a summary of your novel.

This will be the first informal ELA grade of the year!
