Employees or Residents showing

Symptoms

Employees, Residents

5 3 15 H Employees showing symptoms must: Return home immediately Avoid touching anything Cough or sneeze into a tissue and put it in

a bin, or if they do not have tissues, cough and sneeze into the crook of their elbow.

They must then follow the guidance on self-isolation and not return to work until their period of self-isolation has been completed.

Resident showing symptoms: When a suspected case develops, the

local Public Health England contact should be notified. If care home staff are unable to contact this person, they can speak to their allocated GP, or delegated primary care health professional. They will advise on the medical treatment plan and isolation requirements, to prevent transmission of COVID-19 to other residents. THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL CHANGE OVER TIME THEREFORE WE HAVE NOT SPECIFIED THEM HERE

Employees to undertake suitable training on the safe putting on and taking off PPE. Documented and refreshed regularly.

It is important to note that the PPE requirements for care home staff are the same as those for hospital staff on general wards.

Areas / items that have been accidently touch must be thoroughly cleaned. Please see cleaning section below

If a member of staff has helped someone who was taken unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, they do not need to go home unless they develop symptoms themselves.

They must wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds after any contact with someone who is unwell with symptoms consistent with coronavirus infection. Supervisor to monitor

Signage to be displayed reminding employees on the safe putting on and taking off PPE.

Travelling to and from the care

home

Catching and Spreading

Car sharing and the use of public

transport

Employees 5 3 15 H Where possible all employees should travel to the office alone using their own transport.

If employees have no option but to share transport: o Journeys should be shared with the

same individuals and with the minimum number of people at any one time

o Good ventilation (i.e. keeping the windows open) and facing away from each other may help to reduce the risk of transmission

o The vehicle should be cleaned regularly using gloves and standard cleaning products, with particular emphasis on handles and other areas where passengers may touch surfaces

Employees should avoid public transport. Where public transport is the only option for employees – consider changing and staggering office opening hours to reduce congestion on the network.

Hand cleaning facilities to be provided at all entrances and exits for the office or employees to be told to wash their hands immediately when entering the office.

Emergency procedure to be reviewed and communicated on how someone taken ill would get home or to hospital

Consider providing more parking / bike spaces where necessary so employees do not have to car share.
