“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. You my brothers were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." Galatians 5: 1 & 13 Many years ago a popular phrase was: "It's a free country. I'll do what I want." That may sound good, but it is not exactly true. In a practical example, I have the right to swing my fist, but that right ends where your jaw begins. Our freedom as Americans is limited. Again, you can't shout "Fire!" in a crowded theater and then claim freedom of speech. The apostle Paul was making a similar point in Galatians 5 above. We are free from the burden to keep God's commandments to gain eternal life, but we are not free to then break them anytime we want. Bites of Bread Bible Study (Church updates cont. from pg. 3) During the summer months, we take a break from our regular Sunday Bible Study and Sunday School schedule, but we don't take a break from studying God's Word. This summer, we are offering a new bite-size portion of God's Word with 19-minute Bible Studies (9:13-9:32 am) on the first and third Sundays of each month. All ages are invited to this study that will be held in the church sanctuary. For 2019, Pastor Wagner will lead a study of Lutheran Liturgical Worship. Why do we worship the way we do? What makes our worship distinctively Lutheran? How can our worship help us to reach out? Whether you are a veteran or a rookie in Bible study, whether you can come one week or all summer long, bring your questions, your Bible, your family, and a friend, and join us for some Bites of Bread.

New Member Orientation If you have joined the Riverview family in 2018 or 2019 and have not attended a New Member Orientation, please plan to attend our next orientation on Sunday, July 14, at 11:00 am. There you will meet congregation leaders and other new members and learn a bit more about our congregation and our ministry. RSVP to Pastor Wagner by July 7.
